Toilet paper equipment. We are opening a toilet paper production business. How much money do you need to start a business?

Toilet paper market - how to sell the product

Is toilet paper production profitable? Is it profitable to enter the market today? There is no clear answer to this question. However, certain conclusions can be drawn.

As with most production ideas, the problem comes down to sales. Despite the fact that domestic manufacturers of toilet paper are still unable to satisfy the country's needs in full, selling this product is not an easy task for many small manufacturers.

The most profitable channel for product sales is retail chains. But it’s difficult for a small entrepreneur to get on the shelves of hypermarkets: the local managers ask for too much money for entry. There is only one way out - to look for buyers among independent hardware stores and small, intra-city retail chains.

As for competition, it largely consists not of Russian, but of foreign manufacturers. They occupy almost all the shelves of the hardware departments in large retail chains. The main suppliers of toilet paper are manufacturers from Germany, Poland and Italy. They produce expensive, two- and three-layer paper, unlike domestic manufacturers, whose main specialization is cheap toilet paper. There is an opinion on this matter from one of the participants in the specialized forum about business “Business. RU":

Room

To organize paper production, you should choose a room of 300 sq.m. The fact is that a production line, including several machines, occupies a large area. In addition, it is necessary not only to supply the equipment, but also to leave room for personnel to maneuver, for loading raw materials and shipping finished products. The premises are divided into several zones: raw materials warehouse, finished products warehouse, production workshop, utility room and office space for the sales and accounting department. To organize full-fledged year-round production, the premises must be heated. Other mandatory requirements for such production: the presence of good ventilation, sewerage, fire safety systems. You should take care of the enterprise security system.

Renting such ready-made space can be expensive. Depending on the region, prices may differ sharply, but you should not expect less than 100 thousand rubles per month.

Raw materials for production

The basic raw material for the production of toilet paper is waste paper (recycled materials) or wood. From this raw material a paper base is obtained: tissue paper. The process of producing paper base from wood is technologically complex and requires the purchase of expensive equipment. To obtain a soft and elastic material, it is necessary to cut off the thinnest layers of wood. This process is called creping and is carried out on special machines.

The production of paper base from recycled materials - waste paper - is somewhat simpler. The most important point here is cleaning waste paper from various heterogeneous impurities. To do this, use the double-wash method. The cleaned waste paper is then placed in a shredder, after which it is mixed with water. Next, the resulting mass is dried at a temperature of +115 degrees. At the final stage, thin layers of paper base are cut from the resulting homogeneous mass using the same creping method, which serves as the raw material for the production of toilet paper.

It is worth saying that a small enterprise does not have to include the production of paper base in the production line. At the initial stages, the best option would be to purchase a ready-made paper base, of which there are plenty of offers on the market. The paper is sold in wide rolls of 1–2 meters and weighing 500 kg. This will allow you to save a large part of your financial resources at the initial stage.

Equipment for the production of

To organize the production of toilet paper from a paper base, you will need the following set of machines: a rewinding and winding machine, a core machine, a cutting machine, a universal packaging machine and a pasting machine. The estimated cost of such a line is $80,000. Average line productivity: from 3 to 7 thousand rolls per shift (8 hours). Per month, taking into account 22 working days, when working in one shift, you can produce from 66 to 154 thousand rolls of paper.

Enterprise personnel

Despite the sufficient automation of the production process, even a small enterprise will need to hire a large number of workers:

  • equipment adjuster (master),
  • shop manager (foreman) and technologist,
  • line operators (5-6 people),
  • storekeeper and laborers (aka loaders).

You will also need office staff: accountant, sales managers and sales managers.

The approximate wage fund for such a team is from 200 to 300 thousand rubles per month.

Toilet paper - how much can you earn?

The cost of producing one roll of toilet paper, taking into account the costs of raw materials, wages and rent, is about 4 rubles. You can sell one roll at a price of 5 to 6 rubles:

Even if we take into account that we receive 1 ruble of profit from one roll, then if we sell 100,000 rolls per month, our profit will be 100,000 rubles, provided that the sales volume of all products we produce will be close to 80 - 90%.

The production of toilet paper products is growing up to 12% per year. Domestic producers are confidently saturating the market. Products are offered in dispensers and rolls. Companies produce varieties of sanitary and hygienic products:

  • single-layer,
  • two-layer,
  • three-layer or more.

SGI with 1 and 2 layers are produced from recycled materials - waste paper, from 3 and above - from natural cellulose. The enterprises also produce napkins and towels. The range of products is constantly expanding. Automated equipment is installed in factories.

Known suppliers:

  • LLC "Kuban-Papir"
  • "Production Association "Papyrus"
  • "Syassky Pulp and Paper Mill"
  • "Turin Pulp and Paper Mill"
  • "Tver Tissue" and others.

Toilet paper manufacturers are calling on wholesale customers and regional distributors for cooperation. To buy goods in bulk or download a price list, contact company representatives on their pages.

The business idea of opening a toilet paper manufacturing plant is quite successful. So, toilet paper production as a business: income, reviews, financial strategy and advice from entrepreneurs - we will look at all this in this article.

What does this project represent?

First, you should take a closer look at the market. You need to immediately understand that all products will be sold to other stores and supermarkets, since hardly anyone will buy this product from hand.

Toilet paper sells well in large retail outlets, so there will be no shortage of buyers. Supermarkets are capable of selling really large quantities of goods.

Unfortunately, this advantage also has a disadvantage: an entrepreneur, and especially a beginner, will have to give away a fairly large share of the profit. It is worth adding a figure of 30-50 percent into the calculations, depending on the location of the product on the shelf.

In addition, the project owner can create a dealer network. In production itself, there are two options for the work strategy:

  1. Full production – working with waste paper and producing finished rolls.
  2. Simplified - working with cellulose and conventional cutting into rolls.

The volumes of recycled waste paper in the CIS countries, especially in Belarus and Russia, have a fairly large percentage, so the business project is quite promising. Also, the sale of these products is not subject to any tax.

You can download the finished one to use as an example for your own.

We prepare the necessary documentation

To be able to sell products, many large suppliers should register as an LLC. An individual entrepreneur in this case is unprofitable. A legal entity must first pay an amount of about 10 thousand rubles, and then issue a license. This costs another 140 thousand rubles.

Actually, the production of toilet paper, whether it is from waste paper or cellulose, is formalized in accordance with GOST R 52354-2005. The owner of a new business is required to collect permits from the SES (SanEpidem Station) and the fire service, as well as certificates for raw materials received from the seller, a lease agreement for production and the charter of the enterprise.

We are looking for a suitable premises

According to the requirements of the SES, you need to look for a room with certain parameters: at least 150 square meters for the entire production area, at least 4 meters in height, the presence of a raw material warehouse and a goods warehouse. Don't forget about the standards:

  • water supply with a minimum water consumption of 3 cubic meters per day;
  • electricity with three-phase power supply of 300 W;
  • sewerage

We purchase equipment

To begin work, it is worth purchasing the installation of a production line along with components. It will produce the actual paper line for rolls, and as additional equipment you will need to purchase a machine with the following additions:

  1. Vibrating sieve.
  2. Hydropulver.
  3. Automated mill.
  4. Electricity generator.
  5. Washing device.
  6. Roll cutting machine.
  7. Packing machine.

A set of equipment is needed for production with a productivity of approximately a ton of copies per day. You need manufacturers who are willing to include in the cost of purchasing equipment delivery to the production site, installation of all devices and maintenance during the warranty period.

A good improvement in product quality would be the installation of a machine for the production of cardboard sleeves. Undoubtedly, such an installation costs a lot, but with its purchase the desire to buy your product will only increase. Afterwards, it is worth expanding production by purchasing equipment for the production of napkins and rolls of paper towels.

We find the best raw materials

Typically, manufacturers purchase the following types of raw materials:

  • unprinted cellulose paper;
  • white paper with lined lines;
  • book and magazine pages;
  • cardboard and the like;
  • newspaper sheets.

The production technology also requires the purchase of cloth and cardboard in case you are going to make bushings. Undoubtedly, paper glue will also become necessary. Try to purchase raw materials from one trusted or several suppliers, not forgetting to take Quality Certificates for the goods.

We manufacture products

You need to understand that the production of paper, both toilet paper and for napkins, took place in several stages:

  1. We prepare raw materials for processing. To obtain paper, recycled materials are cleaned of impurities and must be crushed in water. Immediately after fine crushing, the mass must be dried and strained, getting rid of unnecessary little things.
  2. The mass, ready for further processing, is poured into a special tank for subsequent washing. The quality of the finished product depends on the quality of washing, so you need to determine in advance the duration of the process and set up a good water supply. Do not forget that water from this stage and subsequent ones should also go directly to the sewer.
  3. Another milling process, which ultimately creates a water-paper pulp, will help to add visual cosmetic characteristics to the future paper.
  4. The next stage is an assessment of the composition of the mass obtained at the previous stage. A special device must determine the required concentration of mass and water, after which the entire mixture is sent to the machine for the production of toilet paper.
  5. The water obtained after squeezing is sent for washing the next portion of secondary raw materials (second stage). The entire mixture is sent along the belt to the drying drum for heating and winding into large rolls.
  6. Only now the machines receive a huge reel. The machines unwind this base to properly structure the paper web into a tight roll.
  7. Now all that remains is to cut the roll into smaller, standard rolls for sale. Each roll produced is given its own label and packaging. A whole batch of rolls must be weighed before sale.

We sell products correctly

Beginners in business should cooperate with large wholesale sites, gradually moving to shops and supermarkets. It is worth planning the search for buyers even before preparing documents for a new business. Be sure to sign contracts and don’t be afraid to set your own terms.

What are the project costs?

Now you will see exactly how this plan is drawn up using the example of opening a small production facility by a novice entrepreneur from scratch.

Expense line Amount of costs, thousand rubles.
1 Renting premises 75
2 Equipment purchase 600
3 Costs for transporting goods 60
4 Public utilities 20
5 Preparation of documentation and licenses 150
6 Purchase of raw materials for paper 600
7 Purchase of additional inventory 30
8 Operators' salaries 20 x 3 = 60
9 Unexpected expenses 10
Total: 1 545

The initial capital investments also include monthly ones: rent, salaries, utilities, additional purchase of raw materials and other expenses, which will amount to approximately 250 thousand per month.

What is the profit of the project?

In fact, you can make very good money on toilet paper and napkins. It is safe to say that the average market cost of one roll of toilet paper is 1.5 rubles. They can be sold wholesale to buyers at a price of 5 rubles per roll, which already gives a profit of 3.5 rubles per roll.

If we imagine that there were 23 working days in a month, then in just one month the owner will receive an income of approximately 520 thousand rubles. Don’t forget how much you will have to pay for monthly expenses, and we get a profit of 270 thousand rubles.

Undoubtedly, the above calculations are approximate, and besides, in the first time you will not be able to sell out absolutely all the products, but you should not stop in the face of failures, if any. The specifics of the business show that in the worst case scenario, it will be possible to break even after capital investments within a year and a half, but according to the best forecasts, this will happen within six months.

The main thing is to understand that an entrepreneur opens his own business to increase income and improve his financial condition, therefore he must independently understand the issue, be involved in the process and devote his energy to the project.

There is also a franchise that allows novice businessmen not to spend money on rent, time on hiring employees, searching for suppliers of raw materials and places of sale.

Due to its high profitability, the production of toilet paper today attracts many entrepreneurs who would like to successfully start their first business with minimal initial investment. However, the success of such a business largely depends on proper planning and organization of the technological cycle.

Toilet paper market analysis

Before deciding to create a toilet paper business, it is necessary to conduct a thorough and high-quality market analysis, as well as prepare a business plan. It must take into account planned investments, current expenses and make a forecast for future income for return on investment.

The following main advantages of producing paper consumables at home can be identified:

  1. The presence of stable demand, not subject to seasonality.
  2. The low price of finished products is a guarantee of quick implementation.
  3. Low initial investment and quick payback.

The main difficulty in this business is high competition and market saturation with products. This factor must be taken into account when planning future prices and sales strategies.

An important competitive advantage of factories that produce these products in wholesale quantities is their low price. Thus, the guideline for ensuring stable demand for manufactured products is maintaining high quality of the product in combination with an attractive price in the middle or low price segments.

Business plan for toilet paper production

Planning a business project should answer the following questions:

  1. How long will it take for capital investments to pay off?
  2. How much profit will a toilet paper mini-production business bring?
  3. What is the approximate calculation for monthly production volumes of 1t. finished product?
  4. What is the marginal level when calculating production profitability?
  5. How much does the equipment, raw materials and consumables cost?

Profitability of toilet paper production:

Expense itemApproximate priceQuantitySum Ready-made paper base$407.00/1t.1t.$407,00 Label$853.00/1t.0.025t.$21,33 Cardboard sleeve$293.00/1t.0.06t.$17,58 Glue$1/1l.2l.$2,00 Electricity$0.17/kW64kW$10,88 Rent$5/1sq.m/1month.80sq.m$400,00 Operator salary$200 1 person$200,00 And that expense$1058,79 Number of rolls produced from 1 ton of raw materials10500pcs. Retail price for 1 roll$0.21/piece Income from the sale of 1 ton of finished products$2205,00 Profit$1146,21

With monthly production and sale of the finished product in a volume of 1 ton, the initial investment will pay off in less than 2 years.

So, with proper planning, as well as efficient production and established sales, mini-production becomes a truly profitable enterprise with minimal initial investment.

Partial production cycle technology

Depending on the type of raw materials used, toilet paper production has two types of production cycle:

  1. Full. Using waste paper.
  2. Not complete. Using a ready-made paper base.

The production of a full cycle of finished products from waste paper, although more profitable, requires large initial investments in the purchase of expensive equipment, as well as a larger staff of specially trained employees to perform complex and labor-intensive work.

The most preferable for home production is an incomplete production cycle.

Production of napkins and toilet paper from finished base

The technological cycle itself is simple, so it does not require special qualifications for personnel. In addition, machines for this type of production are not complex or high in price, so the investment in their purchase will be minimal.

The process of producing products from paper base rolls can be divided into stages:

  1. Installation of the base. The base roll is mounted on a special drum.
  2. Perforation. The base goes through the perforation process on special perforation blocks.
  3. Roll cutting. In accordance with the specified dimensions, technological rolls (logs) are cut into consumer blanks.
  4. Packaging and warehousing. The resulting rolls of finished products are packaged and stored for subsequent sale.

Purchase of equipment

The equipment used in the production of toilet paper varies in complexity and price accordingly. However, to organize mini-production at home, the required minimum is the purchase of the following machines:

The most affordable equipment on the manufacturers market:

Selecting premises and registering a company

In order to ensure convenient cooperation with retail chains and supermarkets in the future, it is necessary to register the business in the form of a “Limited Liability Company”.

Before registering a business, you must select the premises where the workshop will be located. It is this premises that will be designated in the registration documents as the legal address of the business.

When choosing a suitable room, you should take into account the important requirements that it must meet:

  1. The area of the production facility depends on the type of production cycle: full or incomplete. Here everything depends on the initial configuration of the production line and the planned warehouse volumes.
  2. Convenient access roads to reduce transportation costs.
  3. Availability of connected communications and rated voltage in the electrical network of 380 V.

The optimal solution would be to choose premises on the outskirts of the city or in an industrial area to reduce rental costs.

Automatic machine for recycling office paper into toilet paper

An effective solution was proposed by a Japanese company in the field of paper waste recycling. They created the White Goat's machine, which recycles office paper waste into toilet paper. This office equipment has low productivity: out of 900 A4 sheets, 1 roll is obtained, but not earlier than after 30 minutes. But the cost of the processing unit is quite high - $95,000. Although the savings here are obvious. After all, the cost of one roll is only $0.17, and its retail price of this quality is $0.58. Recycling costs are water and electricity. But the payback period is very sad. After all, there are only 8760 hours in a year. Even if this 600-kilogram machine works continuously, then in a year it will be possible to recoup less than $8,000. And in 10 years, such a processing machine may cost half as much. After all, this is most likely a prototype. It is much more profitable to take paper waste from office work to a waste paper collection point to purchase toilet consumables.

Toilet paper is one of the most important household items for a civilized person. Millions of rolls of this essential product are produced and used every day around the world. Not every entrepreneur knows how toilet paper is made. Meanwhile, the production of such a necessary hygiene product is one of the most promising investments.

Types of toilet paper

Rolled toilet paper appeared at the end of the 19th century and at first caused ridicule and confusion among ordinary people. The demand for its production has increased significantly with population growth and the development of civilization. Modern toilet paper differs significantly from its ancestor and comes in several types:

Depending on the raw material:

  • gray - made from waste paper (grades MS1, MS3, MS3, MS7 - cardboard, MS10 - newspapers);
  • white - made from cellulose.

By number of layers:

  • single layer;
  • two-layer;
  • multilayer (three or more layers).

Regardless of the type, toilet paper must be durable, soft, highly hygroscopic and break into fibers when it gets into water. To decorate it, you can use only environmentally friendly and neutral dyes that do not cause allergic reactions.

Production stages

The paper production process consists of several stages:

  1. Preparation of raw materials. Waste paper is cleaned of impurities, crushed in special crushers, mixed with water and filtered through a calibration sieve, which catches remaining foreign objects.
  2. Preparation of a water-paper mixture. The paper pulp is washed in a large amount of water and ground in a mill to a fine fraction. Then pour into a concentration stabilizer and adjust to 0.5%.
  3. Drying. The resulting mixture is dumped onto a conveyor net, through which it is sent to the drying drum. As it passes through the line, excess water drains and is sent to the washing stage. In the drum, the paper pulp dries, is cut into sheets and rolled into reels.
  4. Formation of rolls. The reels are unwound, embossed and the required number of layers are applied to the paper, and then rolled into rolls of the required diameter.
  5. Packaging and calibration. Large rolls are labeled and cut into several small ones.

At the forming stage, the paper can be colored or a decorative design with the manufacturer’s logo applied on top.

Production equipment

It is impossible to complete the entire paper manufacturing process using one machine, so manufacturers install special lines or mini-factories. They consist of pulper, mixing tanks, paper making machine, unwinding machine and slitting device.

Pulper

A vertical cylindrical bath with blades in which waste paper with a small amount of water is broken into fibers and passed through a sieve of a certain caliber. The device is designed for grinding and purifying raw materials from impurities. Its productivity depends on the size and can reach up to 500 tons per day.

Mixing tanks

For paper production, several tanks of different volumes are used, in which a water-paper mixture of a certain concentration is gradually prepared. In the first container, the slurry, cleared of impurities, is washed with a large amount of running and reverse (flush from the mesh line) water, and ground to a fine fraction. The quality and price of the final product depend on the degree of purity. The resulting mixture enters the pressure tank and passes into the concentration stabilizer, where it is adjusted with water to a consistency of 0.5% of the mixture.

Paper making machine

The main element of the entire production, where the process of turning paper pulp into a complete canvas takes place. It consists of a mesh table, a press, an inlet device, drying drums and a reel. From the tanks, the water-paper mixture flows onto a moving mesh table, from which the liquid drains and is pumped out by vacuum pumps into a special tank for further use in washing.

The squeezed mass is pressed to remove residual moisture, after which it becomes dense and transparent. The raw material enters a cylindrical drying drum, where it is dried with hot steam under pressure of up to 40% humidity at 10 revolutions per minute. The finished fabric is cut with a scraper knife and rolled into bobbins.

Rewinding machine

A device for forming toilet paper of a given diameter. The reels are unwound, embossing and design are applied to the surface, and the web is wound onto a cardboard core or directly into a roll.

Slicing device

At the final stage of production, the wound paper web is cut into small rolls with a diameter of 80 to 200 mm. Thanks to specially sharpened band knives, the productivity of the machine can reach up to 1200 units/hour.

The production of toilet paper is a simple and profitable enterprise. It does not require a lot of resources and, with proper sales organization, quickly pays for itself.
