East Siberian plant of reinforced concrete structures Shelekhov. LLC "East Siberian reinforced concrete plant" Trade in Irkutsk

The emergence of the city of Irkutsk began precisely with the construction of Ostrog on the left bank of the Angara River, not far from the place where the Irkut River flowed into it, in the mid-17th century, namely in 1661. A few years later, the fort was rebuilt, as it was small enough to accommodate all the peasants and military personnel who had settled in Irkutsk at that time. The newly built fort was a fortress about 100 meters long and 100 meters wide. The walls of the Irkutsk fort consisted of the so-called forts - a dense row of tall wooden pillars dug into the ground. The front wall of the fort adjoined three towers. Two of them stood at the corners of the wall, the third - in the middle. The middle tower was a roadway - under it there was a gate for entering the fort. The middle tower was called Spasskaya, since it was adjacent to the church parish, in which there was an image of Christ (the Savior).

Trade in Irkutsk

Irkutsk is not only one of the oldest cities in Eastern Siberia, but also the so-called trade gateway to the East. From its very foundation, Irkutsk was a key stronghold in trade relations with China, Mongolia and Transbaikalia. The Russian-Chinese trade route passed through the Irkutsk fort. It was trade that predetermined Irkutsk’s future development and growth as a commercial and industrial center of Siberia. Trade relations with China and Mongolia contributed to the development of various sectors of the economy: cattle breeding, fur trading, agriculture, and the leather industry. The proceeds from trade were usually invested in industry, gold mining, development of shipping, and construction.

Today, heavy industry, metallurgy, food industry and mechanical engineering enterprises operate in Irkutsk. Here we can highlight the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant, a heavy engineering plant, and a reinforced concrete structures plant.

Circum-Baikal Railway

All Irkutsk residents and residents of Eastern Siberia know the Circum-Baikal Railway - the Trans-Siberian railway line that goes around the southern part of the lake from Port Baikal station to Mysovaya station. Today, the western part of the Circum-Baikal Railway (CBZD) is withdrawn from transit traffic on the Angara - Slyudyanka route; only tourist routes run along it. The eastern part of this railway is part of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The Circum-Baikal Railway is not only a historical monument reflecting the heroic period of the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The Circum-Baikal Railway is an integral component of the tourism resources of the Baikal region, a tourist site that attracts both Russian and foreign tourists with its unusualness. The uniqueness of this section lies in the fact that this is perhaps the most expensive section of all Russian railways; the road was built in a difficult-to-reach, mountainous area, and therefore about 40 tunnels were made along the train route, as well as a large number of reinforcing engineering structures.

“Circumbaikal”, as locals call it, is an architectural and landscape reserve that skirts Lake Baikal along its picturesque shores with an untouched natural landscape. Also, the Circum-Bakalskaya Railway is of great tourist value, as it allows you to show the deepest lake in the world at any time of the year. For example, such excursions are provided by the Circum-Baikal Express company, which cooperates with the East Siberian Railway. The Orient Express is a comfortable train running along the Angara-Slyudyanka route, which in one day will travel through the most picturesque places on the shores of Lake Baikal.
