While still in full swing Golden autumn, trees and paths are completely covered with rustling bright foliage. Agree, it would be wasteful not to use such a beautiful motif as an autumn leaf for our needlework purposes.

Very soon there will be nothing left of the beauty of autumn leaves, so I want to find as many ways as possible to preserve it. And let's do DIY autumn leaf decorations?

Craftswoman Anna Oskina did just that: she created autumn decorations made of polymer clay. And she also developed and filmed video master classes so that everyone could create something similar.

In the first master class, Anna will tell you how to make an autumn leaf with your own hands with imitation knitted fabric. Anna turned this sheet into a brooch that can be pinned to the lapel of a coat, but you may decide and use it differently. The second version of the autumn leaves "striped" is also incredibly beautiful, and also looks great, for example, as earrings.

For work, we need: polymer clay of autumn colors, a rolling pin and an extruder with a nozzle with small round holes, a blade, a clerical knife and modeling tools, toothpicks, a brush and plastic gel, accessories for jewelry of your choice and taste, a sketch of an autumn leaf, which you like.

Discussion of the article

Sculpting berries from polymer clay is a simple and exciting activity. It does not require special skills and is suitable even for beginners. At the same time, such decorations look very impressive. Natural forms always resonate in our hearts, such works sell well and are pleasant to wear.

You can take any clay for modeling, I will sculpt from DMO polymer clay. Today I suggest that you mold physalis, blueberries, blackberries and some leaves for decoration with your own hands, and then assemble a necklace from them.

Physalis from polymer clay

For work we need:
- Three colors of polymer clay: nude 810-028, red 810-035 and translucent pistachio 810-029;
- Drop mold. It can be replaced with a paper template or simply cut along the contour;
- A petal mold of any small flower, I have an orchid mold. You can replace it with a home-made mold or draw veins with a toothpick, but with a mold, of course, it’s faster;
- Pasta machine (noodle cutter) or rolling pin (rolling pin takes longer, but you can do it);
- Toothpick;
- The pins will fit any size, I have bronze about 30 mm
- Regular starch.

First, let's prepare the color transition. To do this, instead of the classic scheme with triangles, we simply roll three sausages of polymer clay in a pasta machine or rolling pin, after softening them.

The next step is to fold these layers a little obliquely, skin to skin, red to red, but so that the colors shift a little.

We repeat the operation about 20 times, until the color transition becomes uniform.

We cut out the petals of the future physalis with a mold. You can also cut them out using a cardboard template with a craft knife. From one transition, you can make two types of petals at once, red and beige.

To add texture, you can use any suitable mold. In order for the mold not to stick to the clay, fan it with starch. We do not make it too thick, because if there is a lot of starch, polymer clay will crack.

Now you need to bend the petals a little so that later we can assemble a physalis box from them. We hold it with a toothpick along the center line and bend it almost in half, bend it along the center line to the wide edge. The more you bend in half, the more petals will fit. One berry leaves about 5-6 petals.

We glue the petal with the center in the wide part to the berry as close as possible to the pin. With this method of fastening, I hold on to the berry with my fingers. If you want to make the physalis open, you can pre-bake a pin with a berry, and then use liquid plastic (FIMO gel) to glue the petals. Liquid plastic is not glue, it requires obligatory baking, it helps to better grab the baked part of the product from the non-baked one.

Next we attach another petal. While we fasten them together only in the upper part, the tails are all open. Polymer clay physalis can be made with open and closed petals. Usually, ajar boxes look prettier. But we don’t know yet which leaves to leave open, so we leave everything open.

Attach the leaves one by one. And now we look at which parts to connect, and which petals to leave open so that the berry can be seen.

When we have decided, we connect together the narrow tips of the physalis petals and lengthen them a little, rolling them in our fingers to get a thin tail. We do the same with a distant petal, roll out the tip in our hands and pinch off a little extra.

That's all. Physalis from polymer clay is ready. It's not that hard to make, and it looks amazing!

Blackberry and blueberry from polymer clay.

For the composition, we will need other polymer clay berries. First we will make the blackberry. Blackberries, raspberries, cloudberries - all these berries are made in the same way. We will need a small cone as a base and many small balls. We attach the balls to the cone, starting from the bottom, in each row reducing the number of balls. The pin can be inserted before baking.

We also need blueberries. For these berries, I bought blue and black Chinese polymer clay and mixed them in approximately equal proportions.

We fix the berry on the pin before baking.

We roll another small ball. We glue it to the berry, tint it with pastel, which must first be cut with a knife.

Now we take a toothpick and open a small ball from the center, as it were, loosening the surface a little.

Polymer clay blueberries are ready.

polymer clay leaves

To give texture to the leaves, live leaves, ready-made molds are suitable, and I found skeletonized leaves. I will use them.

For greater naturalness, we will also make polymer clay for leaves with a color transition. The technology is the same. Then I cut out the leaves and put each blank between two skeletonized leaves so that the vein is in the center. I press a little with my fingers to make an imprint of the sheet, but not hard, so that the clay does not squeeze out through the pores and the sheet does not stick to the clay. The procedure is not difficult. Then, to your liking, we bend the polymer clay leaves to give them a natural shape.

This clay is baked at 130 degrees. I bake in an air fryer, it is very convenient. So that the beads do not fly from the air stream, I simply press a piece of paper on which the beads are laid out with something heavy. When all the beads are ready, you can assemble the pendant.

Assembling the necklace

For assembly, we need the following accessories:
- Bronze chain;
- Clasp for beads. I have a vine leaf toggle lock;
- Connecting rings.

First of all, we fasten the clasp. You can attach the toggle directly to the chain, and if the link is too small or thick, then you can use a connecting ring. The clasp will be on the front. I leave a small piece of the chain for attaching the berries.

We shorten the pins on the berries with wire cutters to about 7-8 mm and bend the pin with round-nose pliers. Parts can also be attached to the chain by the pin, but for large items it is better to take an additional ring. So physalis berries are more mobile and hang down naturally.

If you want a more voluminous polymer clay necklace, mold more berries. Physalis made of plastic look atmospheric and goes very well with a variety of fruits and leaves.

To make the berries shiny, you can use polymer clay varnish. Let's see how the polymer clay berries look like, varnished by the master Irina Karminova.

Several finished works from Irina (Rereshechka). Autumn necklace made of polymer clay with naturalistic leaves:

Closer tinting of the leaves. You can color polymer clay after baking with oil or acrylic paints. Acrylic paints are not suitable for everyone; they are definitely suitable for coloring Ladoga paint polymer clay. Before baking, you can tint the clay with pastels.

Naturalistic polymer clay maple leaves:

Berries are good not only in combination with leaves, but also flowers from fabric and foamiran. For example, a photo of hairpins from the Handmade Christmas Tree (Olya Krasnovskaya).

Berries from Marrsibusina. Here the blueberries are, I think, made by pressing the ball down with the back of the pen.

For some, they are less realistic, for others you can’t distinguish them from the real ones. Berries from Elvina. Please note that clay of several colors was used in blackberry for naturalness. By the way, real raspberries are also not uniform in color.

Have you already sculpted berries?

It's already mid-September, and I can't believe it's the end of summer! More and more colorful leaves appear on the sidewalks, plucked by the prankster wind. Soon there will be so many that you can rustle, collect in heaps and have fun jumping! As a child, we did this with the neighbor boy. A huge nut grew near the house, and so many leaves fell from it that it was possible for the whole class to hide in this pile!

But today we will sculpt maple leaves from polymer clay - orange and multi-colored. I'll show you two ways! Such autumn leaves will be an excellent decoration for an interior composition or will add variety to accessories - hairpins, brooches, headbands. In autumn, it is customary to wear everything gray for some reason, and we will try to add colors to this despondency. Well, shall we sculpt?
