July 12 is International Photographer's Day. On this day, Christians honor the memory of Saint Veronica, according to legend, who gave Jesus Christ, who fell under the weight of the cross on the way to Calvary, a drink of water and a handkerchief so that he could wipe off his sweat. Returning home, she discovered the image of Christ imprinted on the scarf. Modern photographers consider Veronica their patroness. On June 12, many professional events take place around the world.

In Chernyakhovsk, the holiday was first celebrated in 2016, when activists of the photo club “Rakurs” organized a two-day seminar at the Georgeburg Castle, where the club’s photo studio was located at that time, inviting like-minded people from all over the region. The event, which brought together more than fifty amateurs and professionals, was a great success.

This year, Chernyakhiv residents will celebrate Photographer’s Day next weekend – July 15 and 16. The events will take place at several venues, one of which will be the city central Library named after Anatoly Lunin. This is where the grand opening of Photographer's Day will take place.

This time, the Kaliningrad photo club “Hot Shoes” worked on preparing the seminar together with “Rakurs”. Chernyakhovites had the opportunity to meet members of this association at last year’s event, at which some of the club members made presentations. In February, the library hosted the first “Hot Shoes” exhibition in our city - “We are staying for the winter.” Then the authors were inspired to create works by the unpredictable Kaliningrad winter.

For the opening of the summer photography workshop in Chernyakhovka, Kaliningrad photographers have prepared a new exhibition “The Third Element. Water". Photographer's Day will begin with her review in the library Gallery. Water will be provided at works in in different forms and condition. These are snow-covered flowers, and drops on the paving stones, and glaciers, and waterfalls, and puddles that reflect the whole world, and, of course, the sea.

After the opening ceremony, a guest from Kaliningrad, a member of the Union of Russian Photographers, director of the branch of the Union of Russian Photographers in Kaliningrad, and a teacher at the Kant IKBFU, will speak to photography enthusiasts. Based on materials from his album “Ark”, Yuri Borisovich will conduct Master Class "The nature of borderline states as a creative source for the photographer."

At the end of the master class, event participants will be invited to opening of the exhibition “In this world I am only a passer-by”, dedicated to the nature of the Kaliningrad region. Its authors are Kaliningrad amateur photographers Vladimir Prokaev (wildlife photographer, finalist of the photo exhibitions “Wildlife of Russia” and “Wildlife of Lithuania”, finalist of the “Amber Serpent” competition), Mikhail Khromov (experienced amateur photographer, finalist of the exhibition National Geographic Russia "Wildlife of Russia 2015"), Valery Pritchenko (nature photographer, best photographer Kaliningrad according to 35AWARDS 2017).

To date, this is the largest exhibition of wildlife photographs that has ever taken place in Chernyakhovsk. Its visitors will be presented with landscapes and views of the starry sky, expressive portraits of animals and birds living in our region, photographs made using macro photography techniques. Viewing the works and communicating with their authors will be interesting not only for photography lovers, but also for everyone who is interested in the natural world. The opening of the exhibition and the subsequent creative meeting will begin at 13.00.

Further Photographer's Day events will take place outside the library. Among them: the opening of the exhibition of a native of our city, Yulia Gorbunova, “Dreams about Che” in the Aquatoria cafe, the photo tour “Walk along the streets of a provincial town”, the master class “Features of shooting a night landscape” by the winner of the “Photomania-2017” competition Vadim Borkin in the castle Insterburg . On July 16, two creative meeting-conversations will take place at the Bear Hotel. Professional photographer Maxim Khlyzov will introduce you to the basics of production photography. The topic chosen by Alexey Shamashov (best photographer of Kaliningrad according to 35AWARDS 2017) is “Distorted Reality”.

Obtaining photo prototypes

Such a phenomenon as photography appeared in our lives not so long ago, less than 200 years ago. Despite the fact that the prerequisites for its invention arose at the dawn of the current millennium, they were crowned with final success only in 1826.

A certain Frenchman named Joseph Niepce, after much experimentation, managed to capture an image using a camera obscura on a thin tin plate covered with a layer of asphalt.

This photograph has survived to this day and is called “View from the Window.” It is noteworthy that the image was in relief, which made it possible to copy it. In 1840 they began to make black and white photographs on paper.

Color photography and modern digital technology

Already in 1861 they managed to make the first color photograph using three cameras with red, green and blue color filters installed in them.

For almost the entire 20th century, people used it by developing negatives themselves in a dark room or by taking the film to specialized departments. And then we waited impatiently for the results for several days.
