Design

New Canon PowerShot The A2500 Black is not much different in appearance and functionality from its predecessor in the Canon PowerShot A2400 IS line.

This camera is equipped with a miniature body made of quality materials and has a durable build. It is quite comfortable to use even with one hand.

The front panel houses the lens, flash and autofocus illuminator.

On the top edge there are microphone and speaker openings, a power key, a shutter release combined with a zoom control ring.

On the back there is a 2.7-inch display. It has excellent horizontal viewing angles, but not so good vertical ones. To the right of the screen there are keys for controlling device functions. There are also buttons for viewing pictures and menus, as well as keys for recording video and calling help.

On the right side there is a plug, under which the USB input is hidden, and ears for attaching a strap.

On the bottom panel there is a metal socket for attaching a tripod, compartments for memory cards and a battery with a capacity of 680 mAh.

Functions and controls

Like many entry-level cameras, the presented new product frees the user from detailed control over exposure. The aperture position, ranging from f/2.8 to f/6.9, and the shutter speed, from 15 to 1/2000 sec, are automatically set by the camera depending on lighting conditions and scene mode selection.

Calling up the menu provides access to basic options such as autofocus, digital zoom, flash, etc. Automatic device operation settings are activated using the AUTO button. But also with its help, when you press a function key, access to other modes opens:

• Program– ensures use the largest number functions such as setting time-lapse shooting and video shooting parameters, timer, image printing.
• Live View makes simple image adjustments to create the desired effects. With it you can adjust the brightness and contrast, as well as color saturation.
• Digital stabilization mode Provides clear and sharp pictures. It uses sophisticated stabilization technology that tracks camera movement during handheld shooting to automatically capture the best possible image.
• Low light mode(4MP) allows you to take clear pictures in low light conditions.
• Stage mode provides photography in accordance with the scene: “portrait”, “landscape”, “children”, “fireworks”, “beach”, “greenery”, “snow”, “animals”. Creative effects are also presented in this mode for ease of use. Among them, the following artistic settings are available: “fisheye”, “miniature”, “toy camera”, “black and white”, “super bright”, “poster effect”, “long exposure”. The function of calling reference material is placed on a separate button . This solution is very convenient to facilitate the work of novice amateur photographers. It provides quick access to instructions for using the camera. To view captured images, press the play key on the rear panel. Then, use the cursor button to move to the left to view all the photos.
  Activating Eco mode allows you to turn off the display to save battery power. This function turns on automatically if the device is in standby mode for more than 10 seconds.

  The shutter button is pressure sensitive. Therefore, a light click will be enough to take a photo. The zoom feature is also easy to use. This is done by turning the zoom control ring located on the top panel of the camera.

  Canon PowerShot A2500 Black has a built-in flash. It can operate in several modes: auto, on, off, slow sync, red-eye removal. In addition, there are face detection, locking and intelligent flash exposure compensation functions. The flash range at short focus ranges from 50 cm to 3.0 m, at long focus – from 1.0 m to 2.0 m.

  The presented new product provides excellent image quality both in macro photography and in close-up photography. The minimum shooting distance is 3 cm from the subject. At the same time, macro photography gives excellent results: clear details, vibrant colors and good background blur.
  

  A 680 mAh lithium-ion battery powers the camera for up to 220 shots in normal mode and up to 300 shots in economy mode.

  Video recording

  Video recording is carried out in HD format with a resolution of 1280x720. The maximum video length is limited in time (29 minutes) and memory capacity (up to 4 GB per file). Some of the creative effects found in photography can also be used in video recording. These include Miniature, Black and White, Super Vivid, Poster, Snow, Fireworks, and Portrait mode. Optical zoom and focusing do not work during video recording, but smooth digital zoom is available. Sound recording on this new product is done in mono mode.

  The lens has a focal length range from 28 to 140 mm. At wide-angle, the minimum aperture value of f2.8 is excellent for a budget option compact cameras. In good lighting conditions, the resulting images have excellent color reproduction and detail quality. The wide-angle lens allows you to expand the frame's coverage and allows you to create great group shots and panoramic landscapes. It also has 5x optical zoom. For a closer look, you can use the 10x digital zoom with the Zoom Plus function. It ensures the clarity of the zoomed image and its detail.
  

  One of the disadvantages of the presented model is the lack of optical stabilization. True, it is compensated by the presence of digital stabilization, which ensures it automatic setup. When taking photographs in good conditions, even at a maximum 5x magnification, the presence of optical stabilization is not an absolute necessity. But in low light conditions, its absence negatively affects the quality of the pictures.

  Photosensitivity

  The new product is equipped with a 16MP CCD sensor with a sensitivity range from 100 to 1600 ISO.

  Noise is well controlled up to ISO 200. ISO 400 is great for shooting in well-lit conditions. Color rendition and reproduction of the smallest details in this case are excellent. There aren't many compression artifacts or grain present, even when viewing the photo at 100 percent magnification. But when increasing ISO in low light conditions, there is a large loss in image detail and the presence of color noise. They are most noticeable in dark areas of the frame.

Electronic The viewfinder is a miniature LCD screen with a lens (eyepiece) installed inside the camera. The electronic viewfinder screen displays the future frame as it is “seen” by the light-sensitive matrix through the camera lens; it is completely free from the shortcomings of the optical viewfinder (for example, parallax). The photographer can immediately visually assess the white balance or the correctness of exposure correction. In addition, all the main shooting parameters can be displayed on the electronic viewfinder screen.
This type of viewfinder can be used in bright sunlight, when using a regular LCD screen becomes difficult.
The disadvantages of the electronic viewfinder include the consumption of additional energy during operation.

U mirror The viewfinder captures the image directly through the camera lens using a folding mirror (hence its name). Cameras with a mirror viewfinder do not have parallax (the discrepancy between the image in the viewfinder and what the lens “sees”). The image observed in the mirror viewfinder window completely coincides with the image falling through the lens onto the matrix, the photographer can clearly control the focusing accuracy and depth of field, and all the main shooting parameters are usually displayed in the viewfinder.
Viewfinders of this type provide best conditions for the work of a photographer, but due to their complex design they are used only in expensive professional and semi-professional, so-called SLR digital cameras, which in fact are named after the type of viewfinder.
