Tadao built his business all his life, and began with a modest position as a factory worker. Tadao and his brothers gave the world the first electric calculator, and later introduced its principle into the operation of wristwatches. Some Casio models today are capable of picking up time signals from 48 cities around the world, measuring speed, terrain altitude, atmospheric pressure, taking photographs... we're not even talking about the chronograph function, calendar and tidal frequency? all of this is included in the "standard" feature set of Casio.

The warranty does not apply to:

• replacing the battery;
• mechanical damage resulting from careless handling of the watch: impact marks, chips, cracks, scratches, nicks, etc.;
• watches with traces of unauthorized opening (outside the recommended service center) or unprofessional repair attempts: scratches at the junction of parts of the case, damage to the screw slots, fingerprints on the mechanism parts;
• watches with interference caused by exposure to extreme temperatures (more than +50 and -20 degrees Celsius);
• damage resulting from contact with water not provided for by the operating rules of a specific watch;
• damage caused by insects, caustic chemicals, or any foreign objects getting inside the watch;
• damage caused by natural disasters, static electricity, and other natural factors;
• damage caused by natural wear and tear: abrasion of the strap, gilding, etc.;
• damage to the mechanism caused by the calendar being set between 11:00 pm and 04:00 am, when the mechanism for automatically changing the date and day of the week is activated;
• deviation of the second hand from the scale strokes by less than 0.5 minute divisions.
• minor error in stroke accuracy: 30 sec. per day – for mechanical, 30 sec. per month – for quartz watches;
• other damage caused by careless actions of the buyer or violation of operating rules.

By Government Decree No. 471 of May 27, 2016, wristwatches and pocket watches with two or more functions are included in the Government Decree Russian Federation dated January 19, 1998 No. 55 “On approval of the Sales Rules individual species goods, a list of durable goods that are not subject to the buyer’s requirement to provide them free of charge for the period of repair or replacement of a similar product, and a list of non-food products of proper quality, which cannot be returned or exchanged for a similar product of a different size, shape, dimension, style, color or configuration,” and paragraph 13 was added to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 10, 2011 No. 924 “On approval of the list of technically complex goods” (Collected Legislation of the Russian Federation, 2011, No. 46, Art. 6539).

In today's review we will talk about Casio watches, and to be more precise, about the Casio "Illuminator" AW80D-7AV.

Somehow I thought about purchasing a “hiking” version of the watch. The kind in which you can go to the forest and not be ashamed to go to work. To be honest, I tried to wear Skmei, but somehow I’m not in the mood for such products. Therefore, look for a suitable model among more famous brands. Because the difference in cost between Chinese and branded watches at the entry-level price level is now not that big. As you might guess, the result of my search was Casio watch. Why? Yes, because, as they say, it’s cheap and cheerful :)

We bought a watch from another seller, but at the time of writing this review, that lot was no longer available, so I had to find something similar, even though there is a difference in price.

The watch arrived in its original packaging, which, unfortunately, is not suitable for daily storage. In my case, the packaging was a plastic box:

There are a lot of inscriptions on the box both in English and Japanese. After some googling, I found out that this is the original Casio packaging, so there is no need to worry about the authenticity of the watch. And it’s unlikely that anyone will decide to fake watches from this price segment.

The delivery package included the watch itself, as well as instructions in which there is not a word in Russian.


In real life the watch looks no worse than in the seller's photographs. When you take them in your hands, you are surprised at their low weight. This is due to the fact that the watch case is made of plastic, like glass. The watch weighs only 85 grams.

Concerning overall quality manufacturing, then I have no complaints. So far, nothing has fallen off the watch or squeaked :) The declared water resistance of this model is 50 meters, that is, it is not afraid of splashes, you can wash your car or swim in it, but you cannot dive or scuba dive.

If you look at the back cover, you can get acquainted with the main functions of the watch, and also see that it uses the 2747 module, which is also used in a number of other models: AW-80/81, EFA-109/110/111/112/ 118 and HDC-600. For quite a long time during which this module has been installed in Casio watches, it has established itself as reliable and unpretentious.


But before moving on to a direct review of the watch, I think it would be useful to familiarize you with its characteristics:

This model combines both analog and digital watches - I specifically chose something like this, since the hands are more familiar to changers than “pure” electronics. What immediately surprised me a little was the absence of a second hand. But after a day of use, I got used to it. This model also does not have a crown; both analog and digital time are adjusted using buttons. There are 4 such buttons in total - two on each side.


They are pressed with little effort, the stroke is pleasant and short. The function of each button is indicated on the watch face - adjust, light, mode and search.

Now about the most interesting thing - the functionality. This model takes the best from analog and digital watches, even more. Casio AW80D-7AV is equipped with a phone book function for 30 phone numbers. It is unlikely that anyone will need this function today, but, as they say, it doesn’t ask for food :) Each entry can include text of 8 letters and 12 numbers.


Modes are switched using the "Mode" button. After the notebook mode comes "world time". Here you can view the time for 30 different cities (29 time zones), including London, Berlin, Paris and so on.


The next one is “Beep Mode”. There are several options. Firstly, this model is equipped with 3 alarm clocks independent of each other. Secondly, you can set an hourly signal.


Next is the “Timer”, which can be set from 1 minute to 24 hours.


The next one is "Stopwatch". Accuracy 1/100 second. The operating range of the total measured time is limited to 23 hours 59 minutes 59.99 seconds.


In the current time mode, both the time itself - hours, minutes and seconds, and the calendar - day of the week, date and month can be displayed:

As for me, this is far from the most pleasant option, but it copes with its function. This is what the backlight looks like in the dark:


The hands of the analog watch are also covered with a reflective coating, which glows much more pleasantly:


The quality of the metal bracelet also raises no complaints. Its length can be adjusted either by rearranging the “stud” on the clasp and thereby shifting the place where the bracelet is attached, or by removing a couple of links (the maximum possible number is 7) from it. The clasp is equipped with a butterfly safety lock; there are no problems with fixation. The manufacturer's name is also stamped on it:

The accuracy of this model is stated to be +/- 30 seconds per month, which, in my opinion, is prohibitively high for a quartz movement. For now, I don’t have exact data, but during the time that I had the watch, no deviations were noticed.

As a result, I can say that I liked the watch. Their design is simple and uncomplicated, but that's exactly what I needed. There are no complaints about the quality of workmanship, I hope that there will be no problems with the accuracy of the movement. Well, if you believe the manufacturer, then the watch can operate for 10 years on one battery :) Not bad if this is actually the case, but taking into account the fact that they are powered by CR2025, I am inclined to believe this proud inscription on the dial :) And the price pleased me . For incomprehensible Chinese options, sometimes they ask for much more than for the Casio AW80D-7AV. The most difficult thing was the setup, it took me about 15 minutes. So, just in case, I’ll leave it here link for the Russian-language manual for the Casio module No. 2747.

I was more than pleased with the purchase and, by the way, ordered my wife a Casio LTP-1129AA-7BJF, but that’s a completely different story :)
