School portal 43 lyceum. “Our choice was influenced by the package of services that ElZhur provides for parents and students free of charge”

One of the first in Mordovia to join the ElZhur project was Lyceum No. 43 of Saransk, whose administration was not afraid to become pioneers. We talked with the head teacher of Lyceum No. 43 S.V. about why the choice fell on ElZhur, how schoolchildren and parents reacted to the innovation, and what the convenience of the Electronic Journal is. Syrtsova.

- Svetlana Viktorovna, as far as I know, before starting to use the system “ Electronic journal", you considered many other options. I suspect I've never even heard of many of them. What influenced your choice?

It is no secret that many computer companies are currently developing such software products. At the Lyceum, for several years we used our own proprietary electronic journal, so that, based on our accumulated experience, we could evaluate the proposals of the companies that came to us. One of the main criteria that we relied on when choosing an electronic journal was simplicity and ease of use for teachers. If subject teachers are not involved in maintaining an electronic journal, then the effectiveness of such journals will not be very high. It is important for any parent and any student to receive information indirectly through class teachers, but promptly and directly from each teacher.

“Our choice was influenced by the package of services that ElZhur provides for parents and students free of charge”

There are several other factors that influenced our choice: the package of services that the electronic magazine provides for parents and students free of charge; possibility to add different types assignments (not just paragraphs and exercises); the ability to write comments on both grades and student behavior; the ability to assign different types of assessments; the possibility of correcting assigned grades (every student has the right to make a mistake and to correct it), etc.

- How was the decision made? Have you surveyed parents, students and teaching staff?

The decision to select a journal was made administratively. In order to conduct surveys, it was necessary, as they say, to immerse people in the problem. Those. make them work in different software environments. For what? After all, to launch any large database, such as an “electronic journal,” you need to spend a lot of time. I repeat that the administration relied on extensive experience in creating and using its own developments, and we also analyzed feedback from colleagues from other regions.

- Having studied similar products presented in our region, I came to the conclusion that only ElZhur provides the main functionality for free. Others greatly limit the basic package of services. Can this be called a decisive factor in the decision to choose?

According to current regulations, the service of access to a student’s electronic diary should be provided free of charge. ElZhur did not ask either the school or the parents for any, even “small,” initial contributions to launch the system. And this turned out to be the decisive factor that strengthened our desire to try to launch the proposed product. If we didn’t like it for some reason, we could easily refuse it without being burdened with any financial obligations. Our students and our parents have free access to a complete electronic “copy” of a student’s regular diary, which contains homework, grades, and teachers’ comments. In addition to this, parents and students can online ask questions to teachers, administration, and communicate with each other. Services for compiling summary statistics of academic performance and SMS notifications are provided on a paid basis.

- What do your colleagues say? Sometimes they can say to your face that they are happy with everything, but behind the scenes they pick the bones of those who invented these electronic magazines. Haven't you noticed this?

Maintaining an electronic journal in addition to a regular paper one is an additional burden on the teacher. Of course, few people in this world rejoice at having to do extra work. Our teachers complain not about the need to keep an electronic journal, but about the need to simultaneously fill out a paper one. Everyone recognizes that an electronic journal is much more convenient, efficient and provides many more opportunities. Therefore, the electronic journal is filled out first, and only then the paper journal.
