Decoupage is a technique for decorating various objects and surfaces by applying a paper pattern and fixing it on the object with the help of special varnishes. This technique is loved by craftswomen from all over the world, it allows you to decorate bottles and cookie jars (even metal ones) with eggshells and lace, as well as other materials.

In every home, there are a lot of ordinary tin cans and containers from infant formula or cream, which are often thrown away. But, if you apply a little imagination and a bit of work, you can make wonderful things from them with your own hands that will complement the interior of a house or apartment. And if you have little imagination, then you can watch the master class.

Do not forget that it is necessary to start work with degreasing the tin surface; any alcohol-containing liquid is suitable for this purpose.

First of all, decide what you would like to see in your product. Depending on the purpose of the thing, materials are selected.

But most often you will use:

  • Acrylic paints;
  • skin;
  • Beautiful napkins;

For example, in order to create a beautiful flower pot, you only need a couple of hours. At the beginning of work, clean the surface of the jar and degrease it, now you can start choosing a design. Here everything depends only on your imagination, you can combine various elements and textures, paint the product or decorate only some elements according to the scheme.

Various decoupage techniques for jars and bottles

Those who have already tried to decorate several jars and bottles using the decoupage technique are unlikely to stop there. Craftsmen want to know various techniques and create new masterpieces. Despite the apparent complexity, all decoupage techniques are quite simple. The main thing here is not to rush and then the result will exceed the wildest expectations.

For example, the reverse decoupage technique is very popular, and a vase, a jar, and a bottle look spectacular in it. Such jars are well suited for storing honey, it always favorably highlights such a technique. Cans made in the style of reverse decoupage are well suited as a container for bulk products. We will tell you how to make a decor using this technique step by step.

So let's get to work:

  1. In order for the image to “lay down” on the surface, it must be degreased. Avoid small jars, they are very inconvenient to work with. Then, the previously selected image is glued to one of the sides of the can, but with the picture inside.
  2. Keep in mind that there will be a window opposite the image, the rest will be completely decorated. To make the product more interesting, the picture must also be glued to the side viewable sides.
  3. The image can be glued with any glue, after drying, varnish is carefully applied. The main thing is not to touch the glass, otherwise the whole product will not look neat.
  4. Further, the entire jar, except for the window, is covered with paint. You can use a brush or foam rubber.
  5. After drying, you can start decorating the jar itself. It depends only on the desire of the master. Some add different colors, others continue the decor using the usual decoupage technique.
  6. Don't forget to decorate the lid.

A piggy bank looks good in this style, but it is better to choose the largest jar.

Reverse decoupage works are ideal for a gift.

Craftswomen are very fond of decorating bottles using the decoupage technique. Most often they use glass, but if desired, plastic can also be used. The technique does not change from this; an alcohol-containing liquid is also used to degrease the plastic surface.

Decoupage spice jars: simple ways to decorate

Every house always accumulates a large number of glass jars different size. Usually they gather dust in the basement or pantry, but for the craftswoman, this is just an invaluable material for creativity. It is especially good if there is a small child in the house. Then you can use the accumulated jars from under baby food. They are ideal as a container for storing spices. With the help of decoupage, you can make them in the style of your kitchen.

It is very important to thoroughly clean the surface of the jars before starting work, otherwise it will not be possible to decorate objects using the decoupage technique.

The glass surface must be cleaned of labels and any other contaminants. For these purposes, you can use water with soda, after which the jars must be washed and dried. Baking soda also cleans other surfaces well. Now you can get to work.

For decoration you will need:

  • Glue;
  • Beautiful fabric or napkins;
  • Brush;
  • Clean tissue paper;
  • Acrylic paint.

The work itself will not take much time, but it will require accuracy and patience. It is necessary to remove the covers and decorate them. The caps are applied to the material and a circle of a slightly larger diameter is cut out. Then the napkin is abundantly wetted with glue, after getting wet it is divided into several layers. The top layer, on which the image remains, will be applied to the cover, previously lubricated with glue.

The image must be superimposed with extreme caution, bubbles are driven out with a brush dipped in glue. After the pattern is fixed, it is covered with several layers of glue. If desired, the jar can be painted with acrylic paint or applied at least three layers of varnish. After drying, the covers are completely ready. To make spice jars look more stylish, it is worth creating vintage labels for them. They can be made from paper, fabric, or leftover wallpaper.

Detailed master class decoupage tin

For lovers of handmade technique, the use of decoupage will become in a simple way transform an old thing, breathe into it new life. The topic of decorating iron cans is very relevant, as families with children have a lot of containers left from baby food. The material is cheap, so it will not be a pity to throw it in the trash in case of an unsuccessful outcome.

Tin cans appear in the kitchen and under the grocery store, they sell peas or corn, pasta and all kinds of pickles.

You can make from such tin dishes not only a jar for spices, but also a beautiful piece of furniture, a box. To help beginners, a master class on decoupage of iron cans is presented.

All necessary materials for work:

  1. The iron can itself;
  2. The selected napkin for applying a pattern to the surface;
  3. Special glue;
  4. Varnish to cover the jar;
  5. Mandatory acrylic paint;
  6. If necessary, oil paints;
  7. For disinfection, an alcohol solution;
  8. Scissors for cutting a pattern;
  9. Paint brush.
  10. Alcohol or any other alcohol-containing liquid for degreasing the jar;
  11. Microfiber cloth for wiping defects during the work process.

The work begins with the fact that the decor item, in this case the tin can, must be thoroughly washed and dried. Using the available alcohol solution, the surface is wiped, after which acrylic paint is taken, most often white, which will look harmoniously with the pattern of the adhesive napkin. So that the material of the jar is not visible, it is necessary to paint at least two times, and it is possible three times. The selected pattern can be cut out, or it can be torn out of a napkin, which usually consists of several layers.

After first applying the glue and then the napkin itself, the decoupager checks for bubbles to push them all out. After waiting until the finished product dries, then you can varnish it or additionally use oil paints for a certain style.

A napkin is glued separately for each layer, and in the course of work it will be clear how many of them are needed. Thus, the desired decoupage technique is achieved and visually it corresponds to the theme and place in the interior.

Eggshells in decoupage iron cans

The ideas and themes of decoupage can be implemented by applying eggshells, especially since this does not require a lot of improvised materials. It is enough that the surface is properly cleaned and glue is applied.

It is important to glue the eggshells sequentially, section by section, and not cover the entire surface with glue at once.

When making decoupage, you can arrange eggshells with three-layer napkins for decoration.

Stages of work on decoupage with eggshells:

  • First, you should properly prepare the shell, it should be taken from a fresh egg, cleaned of the inner film and dried well;
  • The jar must have a flat surface, which is cleaned of contaminants and disinfected;
  • After applying glue to the base, pieces of shell are superimposed on top of it, imitating the desired pattern;
  • It is important to glue the shell until the glue has time to dry;
  • You can fix the eggshell with your fingers to ensure a snug fit to the surface;
  • The gaps between the elements of the shell are regulated by each at will, depending on the pattern.

When the decoupage process is already at the final stage, you can see the overall picture of the picture, supplement it with the addition of paint colors. The shell stays strong if done right. Decoupage decoration of a coffee shop, thus, can be applied both to an iron jar and to a glass one.

Decoupage glass jar

In the kitchen, the hostess uses jars and jars to store bulk products, spices. Simple glass containers are boring to store food, so try creating a decoupage glass jar that will maintain the style of the entire room and become a functional and attractive piece of decor.

For work you will need:

  • any banks you want to transform;
  • acrylic primer;
  • patterned napkins;
  • PVA glue or special decoupage;

Step by step instructions for beginners

First of all, clean and dry jars will need to be degreased with any alcohol-containing product. Then cover the outer surface of the jar with primer with a sponge. To make the picture brighter, you need to apply a primer in a few words.

The second step - using fine sandpaper, level the surface of the container.

From a napkin or decoupage card, cut out the fragments you like, make an approximate composition. Apply PVA glue to the primed surface, then apply a napkin.

Place a piece of polyethylene or a stationery file on top of the napkin, gently press and smooth the picture, starting from the middle and moving towards the edges.

After drying, you can add new fragments or finish the background with acrylic paints. If the jar has a lid, coat it with a primer, then with acrylic paint or decoupage the lid as described above.

The last step is varnishing. It must be done in several layers. This will keep the craft for a long time and allow you to wash the jar.

In the same style, you can decoupage coffee cans for storing tea, bulk products or spices: they will give a special flavor to your kitchen.

Original ideas for decoupage

By decoupage of a glass jar of small volume, you can get an original candlestick. The jar can be covered with a primer in whole or in part, only in places where decor fragments are glued. Through the glass, the candle will shine even more effectively.

Using the above master class for decoupage cans, you can make an original vase, flower pots from a tin can. Relief patterns created using a stencil and texture paste will be a spectacular addition.

Decoupage jars with napkins for the kitchen in eco-style can be supplemented with decor from natural materials. Twine, cones, artificial berries will help create original New Year's compositions.

An original way to decorate a jar is decoupage on eggshells. To do this, small pieces of eggshell, previously thoroughly washed and cleaned of the inner film, are carefully glued onto the primed surface.

Then the relief surface is once again covered with glue and decoupage is performed using a napkin or fragments of a decoupage card, rice paper. The result is a spectacular piece of furniture.

Banks do not always have a smooth surface. You can perform decoupage of a tin can with a relief surface in the same way, only you need to be very careful when gluing motifs.

Items made using the craquelure technique have an unusual look. This will require a special varnish. The base is covered with paint, which will then be visible through the cracks, then a layer of varnish is applied, and after drying, it is painted on top with acrylic paint.

The last step is to glue the napkin. The top layer cracks when dried, and the jar takes on an original look. With reverse decoupage and two-component craquelure, the technology changes slightly.

This technique is suitable for jars of unusual shape, clay vases and jugs. They will be appropriate in eco-styles, vintage and retro.

A simple decoupage technique will allow you to turn ordinary objects into original ones that will complement the style of your home, give it charm and comfort.

Decoupage for beginners. Master class "Set "Coffee preferred"".

Coffee- one of the oldest and most popular drinks in the world. It is not without reason that Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of this wonderful aromatic drink, on the territory of which the province of Kaffa was located, where a simple shepherd discovered the unique properties of coffee. This happened a very long time ago, around 850! So the legend goes...

Today, the victorious march of coffee around the planet continues successfully, as coffee production has become a real industry in which new trends regularly appear.

There are hardly many people for whom morning coffee would not become one of their favorite traditions that give vivacity for the whole day!

Decoupage card "Roses";
- leg-split;
- glue universal "Dekokley";
- burlap;
- decorative elements (half-beads, dried star anise flower, cinnamon sticks, coffee beans);
- sandpaper,
- floristic "grass";
- wet wipes.
Progress:
If, while cleaning in the closet, an old glass coffee jar caught your eye, do not rush to throw it away: glass is the most environmentally friendly and beautiful packaging for any product. Any container can be nicely decorated, while giving a second life to a seemingly unnecessary object.

We will disassemble and thoroughly wash the jar, after which we will dry it thoroughly.

We cover the surface of the jar, except for the lid, with white acrylic paint using a piece of foam rubber. Leave to dry and take care of coasters under the cups, sanding them.

We will cover the coasters with white paint, as before the jar.

While the surfaces are drying (which takes very little time), we select a decoupage card with a floral pattern, and cut out the elements you like according to the size of the decoupage surfaces.

We put coffee beans into the lid, pursuing two goals: decoration and creating a supply of coffee for a rainy day. Close the lid carefully.

Having diluted PVA glue with water in a ratio of 1: 1, we perform decoupage work.

We cover the surface with craquelure varnish, avoiding decoupage elements. We dry.

After complete drying of the paint layer, apply brown paint over the varnish layer.

There are cracks of artificial aging, which is now very important. When the paint layer dries, very carefully apply a bronze or gold paint and wipe with a napkin. We circle the decoupage elements with a universal acrylic contour.

Lakirum surfaces with acrylic varnish at least three layers. We dry.

We take out the decorative elements that we may need from the treasured "needlewoman's chest".

It is far from a fact that all decor elements will be needed. You may have to turn to the treasured chest again, because ideas come in the process of work: nuances are always important!
We start with a jar, the neck of which we decorate by wrapping it with twine and gluing a neat twine bow. Then decorate the top of the lid by placing decorative grass, star anise flower, coffee beans, half beads and cinnamon sticks on a piece of burlap. We use any transparent universal adhesive that is not afraid of moisture. We decorate the coasters for cups more modestly, but we focus on the fact that they are intended for coffee cups!

As a result, we get a decorative and utilitarian set for coffee lovers.
