This standard applies to technical semi-coarse wool felt and felt containing chemical fibers and parts made from it for mechanical engineering (oil seals, gaskets, filters).

1. MAIN PARAMETERS AND DIMENSIONS

1.1. Semi-coarse technical felt, depending on its purpose, is divided into types:

felt for oil seals used to retain lubricating oils in friction areas and protect friction areas from water and dust;

felt for gaskets that protect machine parts from abrasion, contamination, shock, shock, and also used for sound absorption.

Felt for gaskets is made in two grades depending on the degree of compaction:

A - density (0.34± 0.02) g/cm 3:

B - density (0.28 ± 0.02) g/cm 3 (for soft pads);

felt for filters used for filtering oils;

1.1.1. The symbol of felt includes its name according to the type of wool: semi-coarse wool, pure wool - P, semi-coarse wool containing chemical fibers - P X; purpose (oil seal - C, gasket - Pr, filter - F), thickness, as well as the designation of this standard.

Semi-coarse pure wool felt 10 mm thick:

for oil seals - felt PS 10 GOST 6308-71;

The mass fraction of non-wool fibers in the finished felt should not exceed the standards specified in the table. .

It is allowed to replace up to 1% of sheep's natural semi-coarse varietal wool and up to 9% of sheep's fur semi-fine and semi-coarse wool and combed semi-coarse tow with a cross-bred klunker of a hot wash.

(Changed edition, Amendment No. 3, 4).

2.2. The color of the felt should be natural; Variation in shades is allowed due to the use of dyed reconstituted wool and combed semi-coarse tow.

2.3. In terms of physical, mechanical and chemical parameters, technical semi-coarse wool felt must comply with the standards specified in Table. .

2.4. The density of felt parts, depending on their thickness and outer diameter or length, must comply with the standards specified in table. .

2.4.1. Deviations in the density of parts are allowed: minus - 0.01 g/cm 3 for parts made of semi-coarse wool felt, 0.02 g/cm 3 - for parts made of semi-coarse wool felt containing chemical fibers, plus - within the limits of the felt indicator, taking into account the tolerance by volumetric weight of felt (see table).

The linear density of the threads is selected depending on the width of the bead and the thickness of the ring.

With a border width of 10 mm or more, the line closest to the inner edge of the border should be at least 3 mm away from it. If the border width is less than 10 mm, it is permissible to sew the rings in one row with the stitching positioned at an equal distance from the edges of the border;

This material is currently used in a large number of different industries. Most often it is praised for the fact that the weight of the product is very small and at the same time, it has excellent thermal insulation. In addition, it can be used as a filter or cushioning material.

Felt according to GOST

Like many other industrial products, the production of this material has established a standard regulating the manufacturing process, technical requirements to the product, its properties, characteristics, labeling, packaging, etc. It is worth noting that there are several GOST standards for technical felt. This is very important, since there are several types of felt, each of which has its own GOST and its own production process.

  1. There is fine-wool felt - GOST 288-72.
  2. There is technical semi-coarse wool felt - GOST 6308-71.
  3. There is also technical fine-wool felt, which is used in electrical equipment - GOST 11025-78.
  4. Coarse wool felt - GOST - 6418-81.
  5. The last type of felt is yurt. Its GOST is 16221-79.

Felt production

Felt is a material that can be made by felting from several of the following materials:

  • production is possible from 100% animal wool;
  • can be made from plant fibers;
  • can also be used for production;

If we talk about the production of natural technical felt, it can also be made from coarse-wool, fine-wool or semi-coarse-wool fibers. Structure of this product- scaly. Due to the presence of such a structure, during the process of felting this material, the scales interlock with each other, resulting in the formation of a very dense monolithic fabric. Most often, 100% sheep wool is used to produce natural technical felt. However, in some cases, rabbit or goat wool is also used. The product that is obtained by replacing the original wool is called fert and is characterized by the fact that it is softer.

Use of felt in transport

One of the many uses of this product is to insulate a vehicle or completely insulate it. In addition to this characteristic, it is also capable of creating sound insulation in the car and reducing any vibration. Since this material is most often made from natural sheep wool, at high temperatures it will not emit any harmful fumes into the atmosphere. The maximum temperature that technical felt can withstand is about 200 degrees Celsius. Plus, in addition to all these parameters, felt is also capable of protecting vehicle from moisture.

Using felt in a residential area

This one is also perfect for use in residential buildings. There are several reasons for this. The first reason for the widespread use of this product is that it is considered completely environmentally friendly and harmless to human health. The second reason is to provide excellent protection of the room from drafts and cold. It can be used as insulating material, laying it in the cracks between windows or doors. The third reason for the widespread use of technical felt, therefore, is that this material is an excellent insulator. interior space from external odors. Also, the use of this material will provide decent protection against mold and dampness in the room.

However, these applications are only a small part of the vast number in which it is also used. It is used quite a lot in the construction industry, in the production of furniture, as well as in the creation musical instruments. This a large number of areas of application of the same material is explained by the fact that during the creation process it is possible to give it various characteristics that are required in a particular field of industry.

Application of felt by type

Coarse wool felt is used in places where the load and speeds are not too high. This type of felt is used in places where the technical requirements are not too high. It has also found a place in foundation construction as bitumen-impregnated spacers.

There is a type of fine-wool felt used in dentures. In prostheses such as TU 803-54, this material serves as a gasket, as well as as parts of the prostheses themselves. Most often, it is used to produce hands and toes. The thickness of technical felt is 20 mm, 40 or 50. The composition of this material itself is 85% and the remaining 15 is combed tow.

Semi-coarse wool material is used in more loaded areas, and is also often used as a raw material for the production of small-sized but very durable parts.

Fine-wool felt has found its application in instrument making, in the most critical places. According to its technical parameters this type The material can be used to produce parts such as oil seals, gaskets, filters, wicks.
