Forklift driver Alexander Panfilenko from Minsk has been living on money from odd jobs for almost two years, because he has not been able to get an official job. “A big break in seniority,” is how employers often motivate rejection, he says. “I haven’t walked a day in my life, and here I’ve been sitting without a job for the fourth month, the three of us live on my wife’s pension and my unemployment benefit,” complains Mikhail Shkarubo, a Gomel resident. They don’t take a man because of health restrictions, but they still don’t give him a disability group. the site talked to those who want to get a job, but still remain without it.

In Belarus, the ninth month in a row the number of unemployed. At the beginning of January, there were 22,863 officially unemployed in the country, the Ministry of Labor reported. This is 1283 people less than at the beginning of December last year.

The highest level of registered unemployment is in three regions - Brest, Vitebsk and Gomel (0.7%).

And although official unemployment continues to decline, many Belarusians cannot find a job for a long time.

“I have not been able to officially get a job for more than two years”

Loader driver Alexander Panfilenko from Minsk has been living on money from odd jobs for almost two years now, because he hasn’t been able to get an official job.

“I have a specialized secondary education, I am a metalworking mechanic,” says Alexander. - Once I worked in my specialty, then my eyesight fell a lot, I made a correction and decided to quit so that it would not fall again.

After some time, Alexander got a job as a turner, but says that he did not work for him for long, quit and went to courses - to study as a loader driver.

- When I finished the courses, I looked for a job in this specialty for a long time and nevertheless got a job. I was hired as a loader driver to a brewery,” Alexander continues. “I worked there for almost two years. Then I had to go to Moscow, I had to quit.

When the man returned to Belarus, he again began to look for work.

- I found it at the BelZhD: a forklift driver was needed for the logistics warehouse. But I did not stay there for a long time, only 3.5 months, because I was again invited to the brewery. I agreed, because at the BelZhD warehouse my salary was only 340 rubles, at the brewery they paid twice as much, - Alexander admits. “But the brewery has already hired people not as before under a contract, but under a work contract. Soon there was less work - part of the warehouse moved, so with some people, including me, the contract was terminated. And now for more than two years I have not been able to find an official job.

Alexander says that he sends resumes to different companies, calls, but so far the search has not been successful. “Big break in seniority,” employers often tell him.

- sent resume to trading network they needed a forklift driver. But they suddenly called me on Saturday, invited me for an interview. And at that time I was not in Minsk. They put me on the reserve, but later they called back and said that they had already found a person. Circumstances played a role here,” the man says. - I also contacted the confiscated store. But they didn’t take me there, they said that there was a big break in the experience, I didn’t suit them.

After that, according to Alexander, he still tried to get into an enterprise that produces Decoration Materials from PVC, but it also did not grow together.

- I realized that I could not get a job as a forklift driver, I decided to try just a driver. But even here everything turned out to be not easy - both experience and seniority are needed, and I have a big break, - says Alexander. - In organizations where I tried to get a job, an average salary was offered 600 rubles.

The man keeps looking permanent job- sends out resumes, calls, but says that they rarely answer.

“Once they called and offered to get a job as a stacker driver, but I don’t have the appropriate qualifications, I have the right to work only on a loader,” says Alexander.

In order to “live somehow”, he has to look for one-time part-time jobs.

- I worked as a picker in a warehouse, I earned 30 rubles a day. A year ago, I briefly worked as a courier driver in a store, delivering fishing gear. They paid me 5 rubles for the delivery of the order to one point. I also worked for two months as a steamroller driver, - lists Alexander. - Despite the fact that I do not have documents to work on such a machine, they took me. I had to tamp down the sand to lay the road. But the working conditions were extremely uncomfortable: the skating rinks were open, and it was winter outside - either snow, or rain, or wind. It was very cold! I had to leave, even though I was paid 36 rubles there for 8 hours.

The man says that he monitors ads in various groups on social networks, who needs to transport something. Now he lives quite modestly. She rejoices that “you only need to feed yourself, so it would have to be generally tight.”

“I still want to get a job as a forklift driver or just a driver,” Alexander shares his plans. - I would be satisfied with a salary of 600 rubles.

« I live with my mother, she supports me, I want to switch to my own bread.

It can also be very difficult for young specialists, especially those who studied on a paid basis and did not receive a distribution, to find a job. After all, no one wants to hire an employee without experience - he needs to be trained, brought up to date. Eg, Irina from Gomel has been trying to get a job for a year, but they won’t take her.

The picture is illustrative. Photo: Dmitry Brushko, TUT.BY

— I am an accountant by education, I graduated from the Gomel State Agrarian and Economic College. They didn’t distribute me, because I studied on a paid basis, I had to deal with employment on my own, ”says Irina. - I went to the employment center at the place of residence, became registered, and under a special program for young professionals, I was hired as an accountant at the private enterprise Proton-Studio.

The girl says that such employment also has a negative side - they are hired for only six months.

And then you start looking again. After I quit my job at Proton Studio, I was completely unemployed for two months. I went through dozens of vacancies, called, but no one called for an interview, they immediately said that there was not enough experience, ”says Irina. - I immediately sent out a resume, but then I realized that in my case it was completely useless, no one answered it at all.

At the end of 2016, luck nevertheless smiled at the girl and she was hired as an accountant in an agricultural production cooperative in one of the villages of the Gomel region. But Irina worked there for only a month and left, not satisfied with the working conditions.

“Then I started looking again. In March 2017, I was hired by a plumbing store in Gomel as an accountant. I got a job there by chance, just lucky, - says the girl.

According to Irina, they issued it for 0.5 rates. Immediately she worked for 4 hours a day, as expected. But then "I had to stay until 15.00 and 16.00".

“Before me, there was no accountant in the store, there was practically no documentation, a lot of things had to be restored - there was a lot of work,” the girl concluded. - But I received only 100 rubles. But I am grateful to the management of the store, they knew that I had no experience, they took me, helped, prompted.

For the next two months, the girl again looked for work, after which she was taken to a company selling motor oils.

I worked there until February 2017. I would have stayed further, but the company suddenly closed, I again found myself without a job, ”summed up Irina. - Since then somehow no luck with employment. Now I send out resumes and call. They ask about experience first. I have less than what I need. They refuse to teach. It also scares off employers that I am a part-time student - now I am studying at the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy, also as an accountant. Correspondence is like some kind of diagnosis. They probably don't want to be asked for leave at the session.

Irina also tried to get a job as a seller in a store. But, as the girl says, they also want an experienced person there, so she did not fit.

- I really want to find a job, I'm ready to go not only as an accountant, but also as an administrator, secretary, personnel inspector. I would be satisfied with a salary of 300 rubles, - says the girl. - Now I live with my mother, she supports me, I want to switch to my own bread.

“We have to go to the neighbors to borrow ten ten dollars for food before retirement”

Mikhail Shkarubo from Gomel, due to health restrictions, they are not hired, but it is still unknown whether the man will be issued a group.

“A few months ago I worked as a driver in the Gomel energy technical service — I drove the employees of the organization around the facilities, mainly teams of electricians,” Mikhail tells his story. - Then the work became less and three drivers did not renew the contract, including me. One of us is young - 25 years old, he can easily get a job somewhere or, in extreme cases, leave to work. And my friend and I are 53 and 57 years old, we are stuck without work.

According to the man, his friend soon got a job as a watchman in the same organization, but he is still in search.

- I went to the Gomel Machine-Tool Plant named after. S.M. Kirova, a locksmith was needed there mechanical assembly work. They said that I'm coming, they take me. Sent to the medical board. I went to pass - the doctors did not allow it. They say I can't work with welding emulsions, abrasive emulsions, says Mikhail. - I went to get a job at the Gomel plywood and match plant as a repairman. This is a little easier than a mechanical assembly worker. And again sent to the clinic for a commission. And they say they can't. Vegetative dust, noise over 80 decibels, work at height - you are not supposed to.

- I became registered at the employment center, trained as a storekeeper. I was given a referral to the Bolshevik peat enterprise, there was a vacancy for a storekeeper. Sent to the medical board. And there they tell me about the general harmfulness of the work, and I don’t even fit this job.

After another refusal, the man went to see the deputy.

- I'm in a dire situation! The wife is retired, in January she was 60 years old. Prior to that, she was on a harmful pension from the age of 55. My daughter is small, she is 13 years old, studying in the seventh grade. Where to go? No livelihood! The wife receives a pension of 305 rubles. Well, at least the exchange pays unemployment benefits - two basic units - 49 rubles. And they give two basic ones because I didn’t want to become unemployed, but they didn’t renew my contract. So I would get one. But it's also a ridiculous amount. I haven’t walked a day in my life, and here I’ve been sitting without work for the fourth month,” the man complains. - I did not find the deputy in the administration, but in order not to go in vain, I went to the deputy head of the administration.

Mikhail was advised to try to issue a disability group for a combination of diseases. According to the man, “previously he already wanted to register a group, but the head doctor said that bronchitis was not enough for this.”

- Went to the clinic. Since November 17 last year, I have been undergoing examinations so that there are grounds for registering a group, respectively, I can’t get a job - it’s not yet clear what the doctors will say, ”Mikhail summed up. - The day before I went to the clinic, I thought they would send the documents to the MREK. It will become clear, they will give me a group or recommendations for employment. I went to the VKK, it turned out that I needed to go through a consultation for the MREK, without it my documents would not be sent there. Booked for February 21st. That is, there is still so much time to wait, the issue with the work will not be resolved. And then wait for the MREK to make a verdict on who I am - disabled, healthy, or something else.

Mikhail notes that there are vacancies on the Internet for a watchman, a janitor, an elevator operator, a storekeeper, but “when you call, they all turn out to be busy.”

- Two weeks ago I went to private company, tried to get a job as a watchman for 250 rubles - at least to earn that kind of money. But there are 110 people applying for one vacancy. And the chief sorts out labor, chooses the one who likes it.

While Mikhail's family has to survive from pension to wife's pension, "go to the neighbors to borrow ten rubles for food," the man says. “In a month, you collect so much debt that then you have to pay back half of your pension again.”

“I don’t have any connections, I never got a job by pull,” the man admits. - I really hope that the situation will be resolved in the near future.

A resume is your proposal for cooperation. Behind the first acquaintance there is a prospect interesting work, new project, more high salary. A story about yourself will work if it is well-written and answers the main questions of the employer. We explained with examples how to check if your resume is good.

Tell about the experience correctly

Read the job posting carefully. Why are you suitable for this position? Tell in two or three sentences about what you did for previous employers and what is useful for new position gained experience.

Badly
Experience:
From 2010 to 2011 - tire shop "Fifth wheel".
From 2012 to 2014 - assistant foreman, Ultra plant.

Fine
2007–2014 - Sole Proprietor "Horizon of Good Luck", accountant. Accounting for individual entrepreneurs with employees under the simplified tax system.
2014–2017 - Keramika-Aero plant, Chief Accountant. Conducted accounting of the enterprise on 1C.
I know the configuration "Management" well. manufacturing plant 8.3". Familiar with employee payroll (“Salary and HR 8.3”).

The name of a well-known company in the resume is a plus. Positions at Xerox, Lufthansa, The New York Times inform the employer that the candidate has a high professional status, is familiar with planning and knows how to work according to the rules. But, if your last job isn't well known, talk about your skills. Specific skills are proof of professionalism.

Gaps in experience

Managers are alarmed by breaks in work experience. Explain what happened. Did you take three years off to raise your kids? This a respectful reason. Have you tried to start your own business, but something went wrong? This is an important experience, tell us about it. Keeping silent about the reasons is a bad option. The manager will close the dubious resume and move on to the next candidate.

Important last three years

The beginning of a career tells little about your professional level Now. Requirements for professions are changing, standards and documents - too. Therefore, the last work experience is important in the resume. Does the profile of the company you left match the one you want to go to? Did your position at your previous job give you the skills you need for your new position? All of these are your benefits.

If you are changing careers, be direct. List your last jobs and your responsibilities. Explain why you are a good fit for the other activity. If you have completed the course, write about it.

Keywords

To process resumes faster, managers look for keywords. For a developer, these are the names of programming languages; for an accountant, these are configuration versions. Use the correct keys to make it easier to find you.

Remove excess

Write about those places of work or projects that fit the vacancy in meaning. If you want to get a job as an SMM specialist, give a link to the accounts that you used. But you can not mention a side job as a call center operator.

Check your literacy

Run your resume text through any online error checking service. Correct spelling and punctuation. A well-written text makes a good impression, while a misspelled resume betrays haste or inattention.

General rules: past tense, minimum pronouns, simple sentence constructions. Do not mix tenses, remove the extra "I" and "mine".

Leave convenient contacts

It's bad when the resume comes from sweet_angel99. Normal e-mail - rule business etiquette. Get a simple email address - the first letter of the name and surname - and set up forwarding letters from "work" mail to personal.

Give me a phone number if needed. One number is enough, do not duplicate communication channels. If you are waiting for a response through private messages - make sure that your page is not closed. Temporarily turn off the blocking of messages from strangers.

Choose the right photo

Need portrait photography, where you calmly look into the camera and you can clearly see the face. If there is no suitable frame, ask a friend to take a picture of you against a light, solid background. For those who wear glasses: choose a frame where they do not glare. A photo in sunglasses, a random shot from a holiday or vacation, a selfie - will not work.

Covering letter

If you are sending a resume email Please add some information about yourself. Start simple: say who you are and what you do. This greeting should be short and clear. There is no need for complex terms and nuances - work experience will tell you better.

Badly:
I, Ivanov Albert Ivanovich, a hereditary weaver. Baskets, bast shoes, garden chairs - whatever your heart desires.

Fine:
My name is Albert. Weave from the vine 35 years; materials - willow, reed.

Read the job posting carefully. Understand what problem the leader wants to solve. Tell me how you can handle it.

Talk about what you are really good at. An experienced recruiter will easily recognize lies or check your words.

Badly
I am a highly qualified specialist in the field of writing commercial texts.

Fine
I write for blogs and online media. I understand business processes, economics and gadgets. There is a database of experts on these topics.

If you have examples of work, please provide a link to them.

Set up social networks

Even if you do not provide a link to your social network profile, most likely the manager will find it himself. Managers recruit a person along with all the baggage. Therefore, HR professionals or employers evaluate how much a candidate shares the values of their company. Including social media accounts. This is not an invasion of privacy if your data is in the public domain.

Set up albums with personal photos so that only friends on the social network can see them. Review your latest posts - think about how a potential boss would take them. Delete questionable posts, try to look professional.

Turn off the robot

Employers are real people. They receive hundreds of resumes, and most of these documents are of the same type. Therefore, it is better to write about yourself simply and to the point. Avoid complex turns and official wording. Formal language is well suited for a legal contract or the text of a law. But when you're talking to a live person, keep it simple.

Badly
The duties I performed effectively were highly valued at my previous job.

Fine
I meet deadlines and keep accurate records.

You know your business well and can benefit at least two people in a new company. The recruiter will quickly close the position, and the manager will get a new employee. Calmly talk about it.
