Bitmap sketches. Dot painting with paints in the decoration of plates, dishes and ceramics. Bottle templates

- This special kind drawing, when a drawing is created from points. The dots are collected into shapes and lines, and as a result, everything looks very interesting - like beaded weaving or rhinestones glued according to the pattern.

A bit of history

Dot patterns look very nice. And so people guessed to draw with dots in several places of the world at once. However, historians believe that Australian aborigines were the first to come up with dotted ornaments - the oldest samples were found in Australia, and these samples are about 40,000 years old! However, dot painting is also known in other parts of the world - in China and India, in Indonesia and Africa, in Persia and Thailand.

Since the discovery of the Green Continent, Australian murals have greatly interested European art historians and artists. Therefore, the points found a place in serious painting. J.-P. Seurat, P. Signac, L. and C. Pizarro.

Naturally, dots were also used by European peoples in traditional crafts. But we will not touch them - after all, there it is just an element.

Dot painting for beginners: I want that too!

Dot painting is no more difficult than beadwork or embroidery. At first glance, it seems that you will never succeed, that it is a very long and painstaking work, but it is not. Try it with a pencil first - you will see that the surface is covered with dotted ornaments quite quickly. But a pencil is not a dot painting yet. Here we need other materials.

Dot painting for beginners is not too burdensome, because no terribly expensive tools and materials are required. And what you need?

  • Any blank with a flat surface - for example, wood, ceramic, glass, plastic.
  • Pretty thick paint - you can start with any acrylic paint, but if you want, you can buy special paints for spot painting called "contour".
  • A pointed stick, a hard pencil, an old non-writing felt-tip pen for applying paint.
  • A bottle of acetone or any alcohol-containing liquid for degreasing the surface (at least the same cologne or cheap nail polish remover).
  • And, of course, prepared workplace– comfortable, with good light.

Spot painting technique or “where to start?”

The dot painting technique is the same for all styles. And there are many styles of painting. We will start, perhaps, with what may be closer to most of our needlewomen: with mosaic dots.

What's happened mosaic dots? This is a drawing, in other words, made in the cells. Only a dot instead of a cell. Do you remember where you saw this? Yes, yes - these are patterns for cross stitch and for jacquard patterns.

Another way is radial ornaments, that is, those in which the pattern comes from the center or several centers, spreading around in rays. By the way, for this you can even use a crocheted napkin pattern or for weaving lace.

And there is more free way when you just draw all sorts of shapes with dots. It is up to you whether to use a template or create on a whim.

But back to our tests. To begin with, we will choose a simple drawing in which only one color is involved - and one paint. In addition to paint, we need:

  • cotton buds and discs;
  • acetone or nail polish remover;
  • darning needle (pencil, felt-tip pen);
  • stencil paper;
  • sample paper;
  • wallpaper knife or blade;
  • masking tape or paper clips;
  • sheet watercolor paper or cardboard (for the timid);
  • glass jar (for the decisive).

We will conduct the first master class on a piece of watercolor paper - it’s easier, and if it doesn’t work out, then it’s not a pity to throw it away. And if you want, you can try on a glass jar. But if it turns out well, it will be nice.

It is not necessary to degrease the paper, but if you suddenly decide to take a chance and paint a glass jar, then treat its entire surface with acetone using a cotton pad.

Prepare a scheme for painting. You can come up with it yourself, or you can find something simple and cute in your storerooms. From the scheme you need to make a stencil for painting. To do this, you need to transfer the picture to thick paper, and then cut it out with a blade or a wallpaper knife along the contour.

Take a sheet of thick paper, and practice leaving dots with a needle or pencil. The dots should be neat and even. If you immediately use the contour paint, no additional devices are needed, their role is played by the tip of the tube in the form of a cone. To make the points round, you need to place the tool vertically, as close to the ideal vertical as possible, or with a slight inclination. The greater the slope, the more likely the points will be oval or smeared into a comma.

In order for the points to be the same, you need to periodically clean the tool. Moreover, when using paint-contour, you also need to press on the tube with the same force. But try it - you will see that only skill is needed here, nothing more.

So, fix the template on the surface to be painted with masking tape (if you have a jar) or paper clips (if you have a sheet of cardboard). Carefully draw dots along the contour of each element of the picture, trying to ensure that they are evenly spaced. We start with large elements and end with small ones.

If the figure suggests, the points can be of different sizes. For example, the contours of a large leaf can be made with large dots, and inside the leaf can be filled with an ornament of small dots. Uniformity and round size - that's what matters.

Many have asked me to tell you how I make dot patterns. Apparently the time has come for my first MK in the point-to-point technique (point to point). Of course, I can’t compare with eminent masters of the Internet, and I’m not a very good photographer, but I think something will become clearer for those who are just starting to do dot painting.

Master class... see below

I... have selected stencils for YOU - templates... and some information and photos...

Black and white templates - someone uses them as coloring books for children, someone as a material for handicrafts ... But in fact it is used in scrapbooking and is called DIGISTAMPS. What it is? These are images that could be stamps, but not everyone has the opportunity to have such stamps (specific or in large assortment), so they are simply printed on a printer and used. Thus, you have the opportunity to decorate your postcard or other work.

Maybe for YOU it's just a dotted set... for me it's a lot of things... including romanian and dec... and art... it all depends on imagination and knowledge...

Master classes

These contours have thin noses and this is very important. There are 6 colors in the set.

But the set does not include Copper. I buy it separately.

Other paints from the set are also usually sold separately.
And also, in some works, I use Gamma paints - Copper with sparkles and Gold with sparkles. There spouts are quite thick, but they are suitable for these colors.

I know that there are contours for glass and ceramics from PEBEO and IDEA, but they are not found in our area and I can’t say anything about them ...

The first thing to do is to prepare the painted surface - wash it with dishwashing detergent, dry it and degrease it with alcohol or vodka. Do not remove vodka far in the future - a creative person cannot do without vodka!))) - in the process of work, handprints will remain on the glass, and we will remove them with a swab moistened with vodka. If the glass is poorly degreased, the paint may not adhere well.

You can practice on an ordinary glass, which is not a pity))

We learn to put points by slightly pressing on the tube. We try to ensure that not only the points are of the same size, but also the distance between them

It turns out? Now we try to put small dots

Now we are trying to draw a curved line.

Here, in general, and all the wisdom! It remains only to fill the hand. Drawing stripes is boring, so I suggest drawing a floral pattern.

Please note that you need to alternate dots of different sizes - then the picture will not look monotonous. And we continue

And some of the work I do on primed glass. serves as soil stained glass paint. And then the finished work might look like this

.............

First of all, I would like to address this master class to beginners in the point-to-point technique, and to everyone interested in this technique.
I took as a basis a generalized oriental motif, in which there is a figure of the heart as a symbol of life, a traditional hexagonal star and droplets - a symbol of purity. I never learned how to draw, so I took the basis for the plate from the Internet (unfortunately I don’t know the author of this ornament) Here is such a basis

The main thing to always remember is that we do not just want to copy some drawing, but we need a base, which we will already fill with colors and soul.
We prepare a plate for work. To begin with, degrease it well and dry it.
In order to transfer the drawing to the plate, I used my favorite carbon copy method. I fixed the carbon paper with the drawing with the help of clerical clips and began to trace the drawing along the contour. I do this with a pen so that I can definitely see what is already circled and what is not.

After removing the carbon paper, we get soft black lines on the plate. The main thing is to be vigilant - the carbon trace is not durable, so do not rub it hard with your hands, otherwise it is very well erased. The downside of this trace is the dirt on the hand, so you can put a napkin under your hand when working.

When drawing in the point-to-point technique, the most important thing, in my opinion, is the firmness of the hands. Because I am right-handed, in my case the position of the hands is as follows. Both elbows are on the table. Left hand are located under the bottom of the plate, which allows it to be scrolled when drawing a pattern without touching the pattern itself. The right hand holds the outline at approximately a 45 degree angle to the surface of the cymbal, plus resting the edge of the palm on the very edge of the cymbal for added stability.

Before putting points on the contour, I advise you to take a napkin and try to put a point on it. So you can understand the density of the contour, whether the spout is clogged and at the same time, if you accidentally pressed hard on the contour and got a fat dot - save the plate. If everything suits, we begin to apply a drawing from the center. Everything is simple here, it is more difficult to smear a drawing in the center with a hand than if it is at the edges.

In our time, the manufacture of decorative interior elements with their own hands has become very popular. Painting plates are especially common. They can decorate the interior of the living room, kitchen, hallway. Bring a special comfort in a country house. Painting can decorate dishes, mirrors, various accessories, give a unique ornament to the teapot. It is also a good gift for your family and friends.

There are several types of painting on dishes:

  • Tiffany - a similar technique allows you to get the effect of a three-dimensional pattern.
  • Khokhloma is a very popular painting, performed in black-red-gold colors.
  • Zhostovskaya - the main motives are flower bouquets.
  • Dot - the picture is created using dots.
  • Gzhel - simple drops, nets, flowers, lines. Made in blue on a white background.
  • Mezenskaya - rhombuses, crosses, disks are made in black and red colors.
  • Inscriptions - simple words, phrases, lines, and so on.
  • Geometric patterns - a pattern consisting of many shapes and lines.
  • Whole composition - landscapes and still lifes.

The Russian folk style includes Gzhel, Khokhloma, Zhostovo and Mezen paintings. Wood products are painted in the Khokhloma style.

Petrikovskaya painting is popular in Ukraine. In the technique, a special place is occupied by a floral ornament: roses, cornflowers, dahlias, asters and other flowers. In this style, Ukrainians painted the walls of houses, stoves, dishes, and clothes. Each nation has its own national painting, which is unlike the others.

The origin of the mural

Let's take a closer look at dot painting. It appeared in ancient times. Initially, the dot was used in coinage as a means and basis for drawing. This technique was used by the inhabitants of Persia and India, Thailand and Africa. Even the Australian Aborigines used a similar technique to transmit messages from generation to generation. In such messages, they conveyed history, their way of life, victories and defeats.

And in our time, body painting with henna is popular in many countries, such as Africa and India. The formed dot painting has reached our days, which allows you to perform light, elegant and beautiful drawings. The dot painting technique can be used to decorate dishes, clothes, shoes, interior items. Plates, glasses, bottles decorated in a similar way look beautiful. Creating decorative elements decorated with dotted patterns is an exciting activity that does not require special knowledge. To create a masterpiece, you need to follow the recommendations. Consider dot painting for beginners.

The rule for drawing the contours of the ornament lies in the very name of the technique: the pattern is made up of a set of dots located next to each other. A single dot can have a different size and color. To obtain a clear pattern, a pre-drawn sketch is used, or you can download ready-made schemes for spot painting stencils with contours from the Internet . It is better to start drawing on simple things. that you are not afraid to spoil.

Necessary materials

When choosing paints for creativity, decide on which surface they will be applied. Otherwise, the pattern will not last long, and all your work will be lost. The following colors should be used for painting:

Also, paints are water based that are easily washed off with water, and indelible on an organic basis - they are removed from the surface only with solvents such as white spirit.

There are also two types of colors:

  • Overglaze - a mixture of pigments with fusible glass. They are applied to glazed dishes.
  • Underglaze - a mixture of pigments with glaze. They are used to decorate unglazed surfaces.

Depending on what result you want to get, choose glossy or matte paints, translucent or opaque. To obtain convex dots and "pearls" it is convenient to use 3D gels.

To degrease the surface, you will need alcohol or nail polish remover.

You will also need acrylic primer or any paint to create the background: acrylic, stained glass, automotive or gouache.

And you'll need acrylic lacquer. to cover the product after applying paints.

Drawing process

The contour should be placed vertically, holding it in your hands like a pen.

We bring a tube of paint to the desired place on the product and lightly press it with your fingers. A droplet will appear on the spout, connecting to the surface of the object.

The spout does not touch the surface to be decorated. This allows you to put the same points.

Once the point has reached right size, stop the pressure on the tube. And we tear off the contour from the product in a vertical position.

In a similar way, we work out the entire sketch with contours by forming chains of points.

Dot painting looks good on plates and bottles. Consider step by step the manufacture of a painted plate.

Before work, you should carefully work out a sketch, which can be transferred with a pencil to a pre-skimmed product. If you can not draw yourself, then use the diagrams and templates from the Internet. Round ornaments, mandalas for coloring and so on are well suited for plates. Choose the pattern you like and print. Next, define a color palette. Required to work a small number of colors, do not overdo it in the selection, just pick up 1-4 shades. Their choice depends on your imagination and the chosen pattern.

For the first work, it is better to use a transparent glass plate as a basis. Before decorating, carefully degrease the surface. We put the sketch under the plate and fix it with tape. Before you start painting the product, practice creating contours on paper, decide on the pressure on the tube so that the dots are neat. And only after that proceed to decorate the plate.

We start work from the center of the picture, gradually work out the contour. If you work with several contours, then you must first work through everything in one color, let it dry, and only then start working with another color. First we draw large elements, then we move on to small details. Gradually, point to point, you have a drawing. When creating lines, maintain a minimum gap between points so that they are readable, but do not merge into one solid line.

After painting Let the paints dry for a while, then cover with a layer of varnish to fix the pattern.

Since we had a transparent plate, it's time to choose a background. We take paper of different colors and put it under the plate, decide on the background. When the paint for the background is prepared, we process the back of the plate with alcohol. We apply paint on the glass from the edges to the center until the surface is smooth. Leave to dry and then varnish.

If you paint an opaque plate, then first apply a background to the surface, previously degreased. Then you mark up the future drawing and only after that apply dots.

glass painting

Dot painting can decorate glasses, bottles, vases, creating unique and inimitable interior items. They are used to decorate air lungs curlicue ornaments.

The technique of applying dots when painting glasses is the same as for plates. We draw a sketch on a piece of paper, or you can cut out any drawing you like if you wish. We attach with tape to the inside of the glass. We select colors. We degrease the surface of the glass and begin to apply points along the contour of the picture. After applying the contour, let the paint dry. Then gradually fill in the drawing with a different color. After the glass dries, we apply a colorless acrylic varnish over the pattern. The unique glass is ready. A similar technique can be used in the manufacture of wedding glasses. In this case, an entertaining hobby can be a way extra income. Products self made are expensive.

To complete the painting on the bottle, you need to get rid of the labels. It is convenient to use flat-shaped bottles. Thoroughly degrease the surface and, if the color of the bottle does not suit you, then apply a background paint or primer. Then they draw a drawing with a pencil and proceed to painting with paints.

When working with contour paints, do not forget to clean the elongated plastic nose from dry paint, it is convenient to do this with a sewing needle. If you open a new tube of the contour, then test it on a small piece of glass. And see how the drop behaves. Sometimes it is necessary to put a fresh circuit in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before working. It will become thicker and will not spread.

Oriental patterns

Oriental patterns look expressive on ceramic and glass surfaces. The tradition of decorating dishes first appeared in the East in Persia. At that time, the ornament was applied not only as an ornament, but also as a talisman. And all the elements made on the products had a certain meaning.

Painting traditions have survived to this day, and colorful patterns on multi-colored dishes can always tell something. For example, a beautiful flower in the center represents the sun; circles - the cycle in nature; triangles - a talisman against the evil eye. Items decorated with patterns will create a special atmosphere of the East and will be a good addition to any interior. They fit perfectly into any stylistic decisions. Oriental patterns have some features:

  • Rhythm.
  • Repeatability of elements.
  • Abstract forms and stylized objects act as separate elements.
  • The most used elements: rosettes, cones, birds, Turkish cucumber.
  • The main feature of oriental patterns is the carpet filling of the surface. There are no free places on the surface of products painted in this way.

If you're having a hard time coming up with a pattern, then as schemes for painting you can use:

  • Interesting patterns on fabrics, made in different styles.
  • Schemes for cross-stitch, as well as mosaic weaving with beads.
  • Crocheted openwork napkins and patterns for knitting.
  • Ethnic patterns and ornaments. You can find them in books and print the pattern yourself.
  • Cards and napkins for decoupage.

Even a child can do such painting. He can make simple patterns on his own, and more complex ornaments - under the supervision of adults. This activity develops fine motor skills of the child, perseverance, attentiveness. It also unites adults and children, which is currently very relevant. The child can be entrusted with cutting out the sketch.

All of the above will allow you to create real works of art in a single copy.

Dot painting, or point to point, is a type of arts and crafts that has come to us from time immemorial. Its elements can be traced in the rock art of indigenous Australians, the sacred masks of Africa and Indonesia. Modern artists have left bone sticks, paints from plant sap in the past and use acrylic contours, schemes, stencils for dot painting.

A drawing created from specks collected in lines and figures is called dot painting. At first glance it might seem that this complex technique, which requires, first of all, patience, perseverance and strict adherence to the initially given pattern. In fact, the schemes serve more for inspiration or for a very approximate drawing of the outline of the future drawing.

This technique is more meditative than painstaking. It requires a steady hand and the ability to detach from the outside world, not counting the dots in a pattern. If you put a finished product and a sample side by side in embroidery or beading, it can be difficult to distinguish one from the other. Ornaments for painting with dots are not a rigid instruction, but a guide to action. Craftswomen who sell their work via the Internet must indicate under the photo of the sample that they will not be able to create exactly such a product.

In the point to point technique, they paint pictures, decorate dishes, furniture, clothes, accessories. IN Lately interior designers decorate entire walls with patterns of round and tear-shaped spots. Wood, glass, metal, plastic, artificial and natural leather, textiles - this is an incomplete list of materials used for dot painting.

It is interesting that often people who have not done any painting before begin to work in the point to point technique. Then they move on to oil, watercolor or pastel.

Preparation of materials and tools

Previously, a sharp bone or a wooden stick was used as a tool. Paints were made from plant sap or clay.

Acrylic contours

Now in dot painting, the acrylic outline is considered the main tool. This is a metal (rarely plastic) tube of small volume with a long spout. It is very convenient for them to put dots directly on the surface to be decorated.

For contours, a thickener is added to acrylic so that the paint does not flow and retains volume when dried. Using various additives, the following varieties are produced:

When buying, you should pay attention to the purpose of the paint. For example, on glass, the contour for the fabric will spread, and the stained glass window is unsuitable for painting textiles.

Painting without contours

If desired, you can use ordinary acrylic paint from jars - it costs much less. Then as a tool you will have to use:

  • toothpick;
  • awl;
  • orange stick for manicure;
  • silicone or regular thin brush;
  • stack.

Some craftswomen do not use contours at all - it is not easy to collect a decent collection of flowers.

Surface preparation

Wood, and if necessary, metal, is sanded before work. Any surface other than fabric and paper must be thoroughly degreased with an alcohol-containing liquid or napkin. Acetone can be used for glass or ceramics.

The contours are applied to a previously primed or varnished surface. Glass and ceramics can be painted immediately. Primer and varnish are sold in art stores, when buying, you need to carefully read the label and use only on the surfaces for which they are intended.

Dot painting can decorate decorative dishes. If you are going to use kitchen utensils for their intended purpose, encrust only its outer part. Although acrylic is considered an environmentally friendly material, it is not known what reaction it will have with food.

Do not cover dishes used for eating and preparing food with food varnish. Some of its grades are designed to cover pipes, floors and walls in catering facilities, while others require long-term treatment at high temperatures and are unsuitable for home use. For artisanal use, there are special paints for firing, the products painted with them are baked in the oven.

Additional materials

Each needlewoman has her own set for painting. aids. You will definitely need:

  • sponge or sponge for applying primer and background;
  • a napkin and a needle for cleaning the contour spout;
  • hair dryer to speed up the drying of acrylic;
  • pencil for marking;
  • ruler and measuring tape.

All sorts of flaws are corrected with a cotton swab. Fresh paint is washed off with normal clean water dried - with acetone or nail polish remover.

Patterns for painting

In dot painting, stencils and patterns are often used, but are not a mandatory attribute. Craftswomen can look at them for hours in search of a suitable idea. There are no classifications of painting techniques regarding the use of patterns, can be conditionally divided into three groups:

What most dot painters use is templates. Many of them collect various geometric shapes made of dense material, crescents or paisley (Indian cucumber) in a special box or file. Inexhaustible sources of ideas and schemes for painting (not only dotted) are:

Work according to schemes

In point to point, any drawing will never exactly match the source. When transferring a pattern, the center of the product is first marked (it does not always coincide with the geometric one), then the main axes and contours are drawn. The lines are drawn with a soft simple or designed for glass pencil, thin brush, acrylic. If you chose last option, consider what role this line will play in finished product. It can be done:

  • imperceptible, almost in tone basis;
  • contrast, emphasizing a bitmap;
  • shading the main pattern, using paint of the same color, but a different tone.

The recommended order of work is from the center to the sides, from top to bottom. This is due to the peculiarity of working with contours. For example, if you start filling a circle from the outer edge towards the center, you risk misguessing and spoiling the drawing. You will have to wash the entire fragment with acetone, primer, tint and start painting again. They draw from above because it is convenient to hold the product by the lower part during operation. However, these are all recommendations that you need to adapt to yourself.

Fitting templates to different surfaces

The reason point-to-point schemas have not taken over is simple. The painted surface is rarely flat. Even an ordinary plate has a configuration that is difficult to apply a stencil - it has a round bottom, then comes a side and a raised edge, often curved or embossed. To accurately overlay the scheme on a regular bottle, you will have to perform complex calculations and scale changes. Such work requires certain knowledge, time and patience, which greatly complicates the work, and some deprive some of the pleasure of creativity.

Smooth surface

On straight smooth surfaces, even beginners will not have any difficulties with applying patterns. Under transparent glass or plastic, they put a diagram or stencil, fix it with tape and work quietly.

A carbon paper sheet of a contrasting color is placed on a tinted surface, then a template and carefully drawn. After finishing the painting, the reverse side of the transparent blank can be painted in any color.

Painting glasses

Schemes for spot painting glasses are placed inside so that the pattern can be seen through the glass. Then fill the container toilet paper or cloth. For better fastening, the edge of the template is glued to the glass edge with adhesive tape.

Glasses made in mixed media look best, where ordinary painting is complemented by a dotted one, or vice versa. Additions of rhinestones or beads will be good.

Plate decoration

It is more difficult with a plate - its configuration only seems simple. Any ornament will be distorted due to bending.

You can get out of the situation by using or combining the following options:

  • Outline the center of the picture and the main axes. Correction of the picture is made when drawing the contours.
  • The template is tightly applied to the plate. In those places where folds are formed, the pattern is cut and adjusted.
  • Large details are cut out of the diagram. They are individually transferred to a plate, then the overall pattern is corrected.

It is easy to apply a fantasy pattern or ornament from a scarf or piece of fabric to a transparent plate. To do this, a textile product can be “squeezed” between two dishes or put on a pillow, pressing down on top with a painted surface.

Bottle templates

It is convenient to use stencils, patterns or any elongated drawings here. Circular ornaments, especially counting ones, look spectacular on cylindrical objects, but you will have to work hard to correctly place the diagram. The difficulty lies in connecting the ends of the circuit. But here there is a way out, you can:

  • carefully calculate each repeat and adjust the size to the circumference of the bottle;
  • take ornaments with short repeating fragments, mark the cylinder, with a slight mismatch, correct the pattern by changing the distance between the points;
  • do not connect the ends of the ornament, decorate a free strip using a different technique or a different pattern.

To make the product beautiful, let the painted fragment dry before proceeding to the next one. You can use a hair dryer to speed up the process.

The most beautiful things are obtained only by combining such components as inspiration and craftsmanship. Interior items decorated with dot painting are a vivid example of this. Spectacular panels, original installations, decorated with a dotted pattern, can become a real "highlight" of the kitchen interior, acting as a worthy addition to any design. And the creation of such decorative elements is an exciting activity in itself. To master this simple, but rather original technique, we suggest taking two dot painting master classes for beginners as a basis.

The “point to point” technique was originally used in Rus' to create coinage. Later, it became known as "drip": the paint was simply drawn into straws and "dropped" onto the image. Today, dot painting, which has absorbed the techniques of graphics, mosaics and stained glass, captivates more and more people with the ease of execution, grace and beauty of the drawing.

This popular type of technique is also known as "point-to-point"

The principle of drawing the contours of the ornament lies in the very name of the technique: a drawing is created as a result of a combination of many points. Each of them may have different colour and size. And yes, they can be applied in different colors.

Simplicity is the main advantage of spot painting

Anyone can create their own masterpiece, even if they have never held an artistic brush in their hands and have no idea how to draw correctly.

Dot painting is the most in a simple way, with which you can breathe new "life" into old souvenirs or accessories that have lost their attractiveness over time.

The application technique is determined by the shape of the item to be decorated and the material from which it is made. In this technique, you can decorate any surface: dishes and kitchen utensils, jewelry boxes and passport covers, laptop and phone cases.

The subtleties of the choice of materials for painting

Using at work different kinds colors, you can decorate cutlery, dishes and any other interior items. For painting on dishes, it is better to choose paints that are characterized by increased moisture resistance and light sensitivity.

When choosing paints for decoration, consider the type of surface on which they will be applied. Otherwise, the pattern you created will not last long on the subject. Painting can be done using the following types of paints:

  • Clay objects - paints for ceramics and glass. They are also called contour paints. They are sold in small tubes with an elongated spout.
  • Metal accessories - painted with enamel paints. Jewelry decorated with enamel are distinguished by durability, brightness and purity of colors.
  • Textile products - "fabric" acrylic. Contours for drawing a pattern on clothes are less resistant to abrasion.

Tip: when buying paints, test the tubes, paying attention to the density of the composition. To determine the consistency, press the tube: the paint should not come out too easily, forming a puddle, but also should not be squeezed out too hard.

Paints for painting are:

  • water-based - they are easily washed off with water;
  • on organic - removed from the surface only with a solvent such as white spirit.

For painting surfaces in contact with food, special paints should be used, which are to be fired at a temperature of 600-800 ° C. At home, it is impossible to use such paints. For these purposes, craftswomen choose self-hardening paints. They harden without firing for 2 days. But such circuits are less resistant to impact. detergents. Dishes painted with self-hardening acrylic paints, requires more careful handling.

There are two types of paints for painting dishes:

  • Overglaze - a mixture of pigments with fusible glass. They are applied to glazed dishes.
  • Underglaze - a mixture of pigments with glaze. They are used to decorate unglazed surfaces. A transparent overglaze layer, which makes the dishes shiny, is already applied on top of the pattern.

Depending on what effect you plan to get, choose paints: forming a matte or glossy finish, translucent stained glass and opaque covering compositions. It is convenient to use 3D gels to create volume dots and “pearls”.

Highlights when painting dishes

Point-to-point is a rather demanding type of creativity. After all, the presentability of the product depends on the perseverance of the master and the accuracy of the work. This technique does not tolerate slowness and negligence.

Painting dishes, whether decorative plates or elegant vases, using dot technique includes a number of main steps:

  1. Foundation preparation. The surface of the object is degreased with an alcohol composition or nail polish remover.
  2. Applying the background. A background of the desired shade is applied to the prepared base with any paint: gouache, acrylic, automotive, stained glass. For this purpose, it is convenient to use acrylic primer: when applied thickly, it gives a cloudy white tint.
  3. Drawing the markup of the future drawing. It is better to come up with a drawing in advance, but even if you start to improvise, you will certainly get a wonderful pattern.
  4. Creating a drawing. By alternately applying dots of the selected color and size, an ornament is created.

Master class: dot painting of a glass bottle

Dot painting can transform any objects, making them original decorative elements. Using this technique, you can easily turn an inconspicuous glass bottle into an amazing vessel or an unusual flower vase.

The main thing is to choose the texture and color palette of paints so that the accessory created by your hands fits organically into the design of the room.

Choice of materials and tools

To make an original vessel, you will need:

  • Glass bottle;
  • degreaser;
  • universal soil;
  • acrylic paints for painting on glass;
  • flat wide synthetic brush.
  • aerosol varnish to protect and fix the pattern.

When choosing a shade of glass, keep in mind that dot painting looks most impressive on dark surfaces.

It is convenient to use for painting on dishes glass bottles flat shape. Background paint is applied to them only if the shade or transparency of the product is not satisfactory.

Preparation of the glass base

The bottle is cleaned of labels and thoroughly degreased with an alcohol-containing liquid. A primer is applied with a wide brush, evenly distributing it over the surface.

You can take a pattern for decorating a bottle from the Internet by looking at ideas on thematic forums, or come up with your own. To make the pattern even and symmetrical, a strip of a notebook sheet is fixed to the outer walls of the bottle with adhesive tape. The width of the stripe will determine the size of the pattern. In the proposed version, the pattern will be 13 cells wide.

Draw the center line of the pattern along the edge of the glued sheet

Drawing basic patterns

Start painting the bottle. A strip of several points of the same size is applied with an acrylic contour along the upper edge of the sheet. When working with the contour, the tube must be held vertically. Thanks to this, the dots are even and symmetrical.

Tip: Blots and inaccuracies that often occur when applying dots can be easily removed with a hygienic stick soaked in alcohol.

Sheet cells will help you work out the distance between points and create a straight line

To create smooth semicircles and curves of the pattern, use stencil templates. You can make them yourself by cutting a blank of the desired size from the same sheet of paper. To determine the size of the semicircles, you need to divide the circumference of the bottle by the number of elements.

Tip: do not forget to re-degrease the surface from time to time with a napkin soaked in alcohol, as fingerprints will reappear on the glass during the painting process.

Attaching the template to the glass, make a contour of small dots

Painting of framing contours

To obtain ornate openwork patterns, dots are applied in different sizes, alternating them with each other.

Drawing hearts and flowers, feel free to let your imagination run wild

When creating new elements of the ornament, a stencil of the desired size is cut out again and outlines of the future contour are made on it.

The points outlined according to the template are “pointed” with an acrylic contour

If the small details of the pattern can be done “by eye”, then when painting large elements with acrylic paints, templates are indispensable.

The bottle can be painted with paint until the entire surface is covered

Anyone who has ever tried to create lace patterns from a scattering of dots will confirm that the process of creating an ornament is simply mesmerizing.

Decorating a plate using the point-to-point technique

The technique of painting plates is not much different from the process of decorating the bottle described above. First of all, the surface is carefully degreased and the sketch markup is transferred to a glass or ceramic surface.

Experienced craftswomen can draw without sketches right on the plate, inventing patterns as they work. We still recommend that beginner needlewomen think through their artistic design in advance by choosing ornaments and determining a color palette for themselves.

For the first work as a basis, it is most convenient to use transparent glass plates.

A sheet with a sketch of the motif of the picture is placed under the plate, and then the contours are drawn point by point

Before you start painting, practice on paper to create contours from small and large dots, placing them at the same distance from each other.

Guiding contours is better to start from the center of the plate, gradually moving to its edges.

To prevent the drawing from accidentally shifting during work, it is better to temporarily glue the cut-out template on the back of the plate using adhesive tape or electrical tape.

Draw according to the principle "from general to particular": starting with drawing large contours and ending with the study of small details

When creating lines, maintain such a minimum distance between points that they are well “read”, but at the same time do not merge into a solid line

If drawing from tubes is difficult for you, draw dots with a toothpick or a needle

The choice of shades and their alternation depends only on your imagination and the selected pattern.

The paint applied to the plate should harden

Under natural conditions, the paint hardens within a day. To speed up the process, dry the surface with a hair dryer and leave the decorated plate for 10-12 hours. After the paint has completely dried, it remains only to fix the pattern with varnish.
