And finally, it’s worth clarifying that various fragrances are often added to soap compositions. After all, without them, the soap will smell neutral or emit a slight herbal scent.

Where to begin

You can make soap from scratch or using a ready-made base. In the first case, you will need simple baby soap without fragrances or additives. All other ingredients are added to this soap base.

But an easier way to start your passion for soap making is to buy a ready-made kit for this procedure and start making soap from the base. It's easier than creating a product from scratch.

To make the learning process easier, choose a framework that will be easier for you to work with. It can be solid, creamy or liquid. It may also differ in color. That is, to be transparent or white. Here you need to make a choice based on what result you want to get. To create dense colored soap, the second option is suitable. And the transparent base will allow you to place some original flower compositions inside the soap.

In addition to the base, before making your first soap, you should also stock up vegetable oils, flavorings and dyes. All these components will allow you to create the perfect cosmetic product. Everything you need to create soap can be bought at a specialty store.

To cook the product, you will need other different kitchen appliances. Of course, you will need forms. You can buy special ones or use simple silicone baking molds. In them, the product will take the shape you need just as quickly.

To melt the base, you will need either a water bath or a simple microwave. You can determine the ideal amount of ingredients using a kitchen scale. And to mix them you will need a simple tablespoon. With this set you can now proceed to the soap making procedure. To make this process easier for beginners, we offer short description all actions.

  • First of all, you will need to melt the soap or base in a water bath. Remember that under no circumstances should it boil. In this case, the acid-base balance is disrupted and the product loses its beneficial properties. When the base has become viscous and creamy, you can add all the necessary components to it that will help decorate the product or make it more fragrant.
  • The finished composition can be safely poured into the molds of your choice, where the product will spend the next couple of minutes or hours. So that the solution does not accidentally stain the countertop or any other workplace, the surface must first be covered with oilcloth, foil or an unnecessary towel.
  • If bubbles form on the surface of the product, do not worry about its appearance. They can be easily removed by sprinkling with alcohol. After half an hour of hardening, the beautiful soap can be taken out of the molds. If you plan to decorate it, stick stickers or glitter on the surface, then this should be done at this stage. After this, the soap must be sent to a cold place overnight so that it completely hardens.

  • It is also worth considering that the shelf life of the finished product and the conditions under which it will have to be stored depend on the selected components. To extend the life of your soap, choose dried herbs, natural oils and quality dyes.

  • Step-by-step recipes with photos

    The main process and most common mistakes, which should be avoided in order to achieve success, you already understood. Then everything depends only on your imagination. Well, quite a bit depends on the purpose for which you prepare the soap.

    So, if you want to make an original wedding gift, you can always make a romantic soap in the shape of a heart. Congratulate loved one You can celebrate your birthday by creating an unusual soap for him, emphasizing his character traits or interests. For example, you can make coffee soap for a lover of this invigorating drink or decorate your creation like a birthday cake.

    The final stage of creating gift soap is decoration. You can simply tie it with a bow, put it in a painted bag different colors or packaged in elegant boxes or baskets.

    Making solid soap at home from soap base

    The process of making any homemade soap begins with preparing the ingredients., according to the selected soap making recipe. This will save you from unnecessary fuss. To determine the required amount of base, just pour water into the future soap mold and then pour it into a measuring cup.

    1. For cooking hard soap, its base is placed in a water bath and brought to a liquid state. It is important to monitor the base and not bring it to a boil., as air bubbles will be visible on the finished product.
    2. Next, you need to add all the components according to the recipe. You should start with base oils.
    3. Then the mixture is supplemented with dye and brought to a homogeneous mass.
    4. The last components will be essential oils and aromatic additives. If you mix them at the very beginning of the process, they evaporate quickly, and the finished homemade soap will have virtually no odor.

    If scrub components are added to the soap, you need to let it thicken a little. This way, the scrub particles will not settle to the bottom, but will be evenly distributed throughout the entire piece.

    Cold and hot production from scratch

    To make soap at home, you can use the hot or cold method.

    Cold process

    You should start with the cold method, because the hot one is its continuation.

    1. The cold option involves preparing two solutions: hot oil and alkaline.
    2. When the solutions are ready, they need to be mixed together at a temperature of at least 40, but not more than 60 C.
    3. The resulting mass, through thorough and intensive mixing, must be brought to a state called “trace”. Doing this manually is long and difficult. It's better to use a blender.“Trace” is a state of soap mass in which alkali and fats are not able to separate. That is, the mixture turns into a thick mass of uniform consistency.
    4. As soon as the oils combine with alkali, a chemical reaction process called saponification begins in the solution. As the ingredients interact, the release of thermal energy increases, and the temperature in the mixture itself rises. This leads to the transition of the soap into the gel phase.

    To complete the saponification process and transform the soap mass into a finished product, it is not necessary to wait for the onset of the gel phase. It is only a saponification accelerator.

    Hot way

    Cold process soap making produces either a finished product or a soap base, which can later be used for the hot method of making soap. Traditionally, in the hot method, soap is boiled in a water bath., and the process itself lasts at least 4 hours.

    You can also use an oven. The main nuance is that the temperature inside should not exceed 100 degrees. Cooking time is reduced to 2 hours.

    Children's

    An ideal base for cooking baby soap will become an organic soap base that does not contain chemical additives. It is best to entrust the role of dyes to herbal infusions or freshly squeezed carrot juice.

    The baby soap recipe looks like this:

    • melt 100 g of base in microwave oven or in a water bath, preventing the liquid from boiling;
    • add 0.5 tsp. carrot juice, as well as 4 drops of almond oil;
    • stir the mixture and fill the prepared molds halfway;
    • Sprinkle the surface with alcohol (this will help remove bubbles);
    • melt another 150 g of base and add 1 tsp to it. decoction of herbs along with 4 drops of almond oil;
    • after the first layer has dried, it must be scraped with a knife to obtain better adhesion;
    • pour the second part of the prepared solution into the molds;
    • if necessary, treat the surface from bubbles with alcohol.

    All you have to do is wait for the product to dry completely.

    Degtyarnoe

    It is very easy to prepare handmade soap at home with the addition of tar.

    To do this you need:

    • melt 100 g of base in a water bath, without bringing the liquid to a boil;
    • add 1/2 tsp. scented cosmetic oil;
    • turn off the heating and let stand for a few minutes;
    • add 1.5 tsp. tar;
    • pour into the mold and wait for the final hardening.

    Remove the finished soap from the mold and enjoy the product you made with your own hands.

    Honey

    The recipe for making homemade honey soap is no more complicated than its tar analogue.

    You can learn how to make honey soap at home by watching this video:

    1. The first step is to melt the base in a water bath.
    2. Next add honey. How much of this ingredient is needed is up to everyone to decide for themselves. But, when the ratio of base and honey is the same, the finished product will not be hard enough, and it will be extremely difficult to use. If you take 100 g of base, then it is better to take 60 g of honey.
    3. The mixture is thoroughly mixed using a wooden spoon. This is the most important point in the entire recipe. If you use an iron spoon, honey may react with iron and lose its beneficial properties.
    4. After obtaining a homogeneous composition, all that remains is to add oil and stir.

    At the last stage, the mixture is poured into molds, and the surface of the future soap is treated with alcohol to remove air bubbles.

    Coniferous

    To prepare homemade pine soap, it is important to cool the water in the refrigerator, since when adding alkali to it, the solution will quickly gain temperature.

    1. The first stage of work involves melting the base and oils in a water bath. When the mixture has a homogeneous consistency, it needs to be cooled to 55C. At this time, mix chilled water and lye. Do not forget about the strong heating of the liquid and compliance with safety measures.
    2. The resulting solution of alkali and water should be cooled to the same temperature as the base.
    3. Next, both liquids are mixed.
    4. The whole process is accompanied by constant stirring. When the soap mass is brought to the state of a medium trace, pigment is introduced.
    5. At the last stage, essential oils are added.

    All that remains is to pour the liquid into the molds and let it sit for several days.

    With citrus aroma

    Handmade soap with a citrus scent can be created on our own and at home. To do this, you need to prepare the base, pour essential and base oils into it, and mix until smooth. Finely grated lemon zest is poured into the prepared forms.

    Soap solution is poured on top. It is important to pour the mixture from a low height to prevent the formation of empty areas in the finished product. The hardening time for lemon soap is 2 hours. Next, you need to remove it from the mold and let it sit for another day.

    Coffee

    You can find a recipe for homemade coffee soap for both experienced soap makers and beginners. The ingredients needed for the process may vary slightly. However, the result will always be the same - this soap does an excellent job of neutralizing odors and does not allow the skin on your hands to dry out.

    • brew coffee and let it cool;
    • pour the liquid into glass jar and add alkali to it;
    • melt the butter over low heat;
    • add a mixture of lye and coffee;
    • Stir the mixture constantly with a spoon, avoiding splashes. At this point the mixture should resemble a thick pudding;
    • cover the liquid with a lid and leave it on the fire until it boils and becomes gel-like in consistency;
    • Check readiness using litmus paper. If, when adding a drop of phenolphthalein, the litmus becomes colored, then the process is not yet completed;
    • stir the mixture until the litmus test is neutral in color, and the consistency of the solution should resemble mashed potatoes;
    • cool the soap solution for 30 minutes;
    • add castor or almond oil and add ground coffee beans.

    then mix the mixture thoroughly, pour into molds and set aside for several days.

    Glycerin

    Recipe glycerin soap quite complicated and suitable only for experienced soap makers. However, everyone can try their hand.

    1. Initially, you should bring the soap base to a trace.
    2. Next, pour a small amount of olive oil (about 20 g) and melt the remaining oils in a water bath.
    3. Pour in the pre-diluted lye at the same temperature and beat the solution with a blender. When diluting alkali, do not forget about safety measures!
    4. At the next stage of work, you need to bring the mass to the gel phase. To do this, place the container with the solution in a water bath for 40 minutes. You must remember to stir the composition.
    5. The preparation of the syrup begins. To do this, you need to dilute stearin in glycerin and dissolve sugar.
    6. After passing the gel phase, pour 3/4 volume of alcohol into the solution with extreme caution and close the lid for 5 minutes.
    7. Next, pour in the syrup, glycerin, as well as the remaining alcohol, and mix well.
    8. In 10 minutes. add separated olive oil. Foam should appear in the pan, which must be removed by sprinkling with alcohol.
    9. The finished soap mixture must be removed from the heat.
    10. After 3 min. it should be checked for the presence of foam. If it appears again, then you need to sprinkle it with alcohol again.

    The liquid without foam is poured into molds and left for several days until completely dry.

    Liquid soap made from soap

    To get a good consistency of homemade liquid soap made from soap remnants, you need to collect at least half a 0.5 liter jar of such pieces. If the required amount of the main ingredient is available, then you can start cooking.

    1. First you need to grate the soap on a fine grater.
    2. Next, the shavings are placed in an old bottle of liquid soap and a small amount of lemon juice and a cap of glycerin are added.
    3. The resulting mixture is poured with boiling water.
    4. The bottle with the solution is put on the shelf for several days until the soap shavings are completely dissolved.

    What you need for an exclusive

    To make soap at home, you need the following:

    Soap base

    When purchasing, you should carefully look at what it is based on. The best option there will be natural palm or coconut oil.

    Also, regular cosmetic or baby soap can serve as a base.

    But when using them, the result can be unpredictable - an unpleasant odor may appear (due to the presence of its specific aroma).

    Various additives and fillers

    Preference should be given not only to your own tastes, but also to consider the variety of homemade soap assortment.

    The choice should be made in favor of oils that do not have a sharp and powerful aroma, for example, peach, jojoba, almond, coconut, olive and avocado oils.

    Note!

    You can add aroma using essential oils. Lemon, lavender, orange and many other oils are perfect.

    Soap fillers can include flowers of medicinal plants, lemon zest (for oily skin), ground coffee beans or oatmeal (for scrub). The presence of glycerin is mandatory. This filler will create the effect of moisturizing and softening the skin.

    Dyes

    They are used to give a beautiful shade. After all, colored soap is more pleasing to the eye. You can use both food coloring and natural coloring.

    Among the artificial ones there are:

    • dry powder is more concentrated, which allows it to be used economically;
    • liquid dye - more convenient to use;
    • pigment is a water-insoluble powder of different colors, the use of which will give unique shades;
    • mother of pearl – used together with dyes, giving the soap originality and sophistication.

    Natural dyes are no less interesting and beautiful.

    Note!

    Chamomile essential oil will help you get a blue tint, saffron will help you get a blue tint, beet juice will give you pink, coffee will give you black, spirulina will give you green, and chocolate will give you brown.

    Handy tools

    Molds - the type and size of soap depends on them; two metal containers - creating the effect of a water bath; grater – for grinding the soap base.

    Making handmade soap

    This interesting activity will not take much time, and a master class on making soap will help you visualize the entire procedure.

    When making soap, it is important to remember that this process should be carried out in a respirator.

    When making from ready-made cosmetic soap, it should be grated and melted. A water bath is used for this. You shouldn't heat it too much, just wait until it melts.

    Note!

    The maximum heating temperature should not exceed 60 °C. To determine, it is better to use a thermometer designed for liquids.

    You can also bring the base into a liquid state using a microwave. In this case, there is a risk of overheating, so it is necessary to check the condition of the base every 15-20 seconds.

    After obtaining the desired consistency, it is time to add fillers to the soap base. When using different ingredients and essential oils, it is important to remember that too much is a bad idea, and to carefully monitor the amount of substances added.

    The next step is dye. Its quantity also needs to be carefully measured. It is better to add a little at a time, gradually tracking the resulting shade.

    All that remains is to pour the soap mixture into the prepared molds. They must be lubricated with oil (vegetable) or Vaseline. This will help you remove the soap more quickly after it hardens.

    Soap in a bottle with dispenser

    You can make not only bars, but also liquid hand soap yourself. Its preparation differs from the main one only by adding a small amount of water. You need to pour it in 15 minutes after cooking, and then beat well.

    All that remains is to pour the soap into bottles with a dispenser and enjoy the product of your own making.

    Handmade liquid soap is more convenient to use, and it can also be used as a natural shower gel.

    Soap making is a creative business. What savvy soap makers can’t come up with to make soap that’s interesting and different from other soaps! For example, there is no picture on water-soluble paper, what should I do? Found it on the Internet good idea: how to make soap with a picture cut out from an ordinary table napkin. So now we will try to make soap with a napkin, so to speak.

    Instructions with step-by-step photographs on how to make beautiful soap with your own hands

    First of all, prepare a picture for the soap. It must be cut from a napkin of such a size that it is slightly smaller than the shape.

    Remove two unnecessary layers so that the napkin is thin. Decoupage masters know that napkins are three-layered and all you need is a layer with an image printed on it.

    Melt the soap base, about 30-50 grams. Do not add anything to it, immediately pour it into the mold to the very bottom.

    As soon as it begins to harden, carefully place the picture face down and carefully fill it with a thin layer of transparent base.

    The point is that the picture is completely in the soap base, but does not fall to the very bottom of the form.

    Let it harden. At this time, melt the matte or transparent base, then paint it white with titanium dioxide. Take not a lot of base, just enough to fill a layer approximately 1 mm high. Add the scent you prepared for the soap.
    Spray the soap with alcohol and scratch with a thin knife. Fill it with white base and let it harden.

    It won’t take much time; immediately melt the transparent base and add the chosen color and aroma to it. I use red neon pigment to make the soap bright and transparent at the same time. How to use pigments is in another article.
    Scratch the soap blank with a knife, sprinkle with alcohol and fill it with colored hot base.

    Leave for about an hour until the soap hardens. You can take it out and see what happens.

    It's so easy to make beautiful soap.

    I have serious doubts about the safety of the picture. The paint has already “floated” slightly during the work, so it’s better to take napkins High Quality, Polish, not Chinese origin. It's hard to guess.

    1. To make the soap not yellowish, but blue, add highly diluted blue dye to the first layer, then you will get the feeling that the soap is transparent, like a piece of ice.

    As a lover of naturalness and, again, various exhibitions in Moscow, I bought myself such soap to try different ones. I’m already familiar with this brand (my review of Day 2 Day Care toothpaste

    Masks and creams are undoubtedly good for the skin, but I also discovered that soap can have no worse effect. My mother-in-law's husband brought soap from Moscow, and she, in turn, pleased me with a gift.

    I was about to decide that I couldn’t get normal soap anymore... and I even looked at the recipes for it self-made, however, it immediately became obvious that most factory-made bases for making soap also contain components that are unacceptable to me.

    Advantages: perfectly moisturizes the skin; does not dry; takes good care of facial skin; has a pleasant smell; consists of components grown in Tibet;
