Volgatelecom prefix. We connect and configure interactive TV from Rostelecom. Standard scheme for connecting TV through a set-top box

Television has finally joined the World Wide Web. IPTV is television with interactive features, made possible by the significant influence digital technologies to television transmission systems.

The two-way system of such television allows the viewer to give commands and transmit information. feedback through electronic device called a tuning block. The viewer can choose which program or movie they want to watch, at what time, and can place orders in response to advertisements. Television and the Internet - two in one.

And in this article, we will focus on the main points on how you can get IPTV in your home, how to properly connect a set-top box to a TV set from the leading Russian provider Rostelecom, and give some useful step-by-step instructions.

Rostelecom is the largest Russian telecommunications network that offers its subscribers streaming access to hundreds of channels. The company received this status in April 2011, when the interregional communication companies Rostelecom, OJSC CenterTelecom, North-West Telecom, South Telecom, Volga Telecom, Ural Telecom, Siberia Telecom were merged , Far East Telecom and Dagsvyazinform.

Rostelecom is an organization with predominantly state participation. Provides services broadband access to the Internet (first place in Russia in terms of the number of subscribers), interactive TV, cellular, urban and long-distance telephony, etc. According to the provider itself, its service is used by more than 100 million people throughout Russia.

A wide range of additional interactive services offered by the "Interactive TV" service is a significant advantage. Rostelecom users can:

The ZABAVA.ru portal offers a wide range of licensed content, including high-quality videos, games, software and even karaoke. Rostelecom has several licensing agreements with the world's largest producers and music studios, including Universal-Studios, Warner-Bros., Disney and others, which will keep the portal's library up to date.

Social media generates more relevant and useful content than passive TV, which still dominates but is rapidly declining. A user-friendly TV menu, an innovative system that recommends shows, and an extensive library of video rentals have already made a significant contribution to content viewing.

Interactive TV is a unique product of Rostelecom, and set-top box is an integral part of the SMART TV system. It can be used by viewers to select the programs they want to watch, view program schedules, and provide advanced options such as online shopping, internet banking, or access to email over the internet.

SmartLabs is Russian company and a leader in the development of service delivery platforms for interactive digital television (IPTV, OTT, DVB, hybrid, satellite television). Innovative client applications and user interfaces, STB set-top boxes are all that are successfully operated by Rostelecom subscribers. At the moment, the provider offers SmartLabs set-top boxes that work via the Internet from any provider.

There are three ways to install IPTV in your home:

  1. Traditional contract- the client must visit the provider's office and sign an agreement for a television package of channels, as well as for the rental or purchase of equipment (STB set-top boxes). In this case, the master leads a television cable from Rostelecom to your apartment and implements all connections.
  2. Through the multimedia OTT platform Wink. You buy special equipment from Rostelecom "Interactive TV 2.0", enter into an agreement for tariff plan and receive TV via the Internet, regardless of its provider. That is, you don’t have to run another cable into the apartment, you can receive IPTV through your Internet provider.
  3. Online IPTV. Subscribers can watch all channels on a single video portal itv.rt.ru. Here you won’t even need a set-top box, you can access channels through any gadget with Internet access (including SMATR TVs).

What is included

Let's look at the standard equipment from Rostelecom under a classic contract. In the box with the prefix (STB-receiver) you will find:

  • TV set-top box;
  • Power unit;
  • Universal remote control;
  • Cables: HDMI (1.5m); AV (1.5 m); multicore cable patch cord (3 m); adapter RCA - SCART;
  • Batteries for the remote control;
  • Warranty and documentation for connection and configuration.

Don't let it scare you a large number of cables included, not all of them you will need. It all depends on the model of your TV receiver and on which port you decide to connect a new set-top box.

Connecting a set-top box to a TV

Connecting a Rostelecom TV set-top box to a TV is possible through:

  • HDMI;
  • "Tulips";
  • scart.

The highest quality digital signal transmission will be through an HDMI cable. Therefore, if your TV has this port, then it is more preferable to use this particular connection.

If the HDMI port is missing or occupied by other wires, then it is possible to connect the set-top box via an AV cable, which has a mini-jack on one side and 3 RCA plugs (“tulips”) on the other side. We connect a mini-jack to the output of the set-top box, and “tulips” to the TV input on the TV. Carefully observe the color markings: yellow is video, white and red are audio signal transmission.

And if your TV has a SCART connector on the back panel, then you can use the RCA to SCART adapter, which is included in the equipment kit. This is a special type of connection that cannot be confused with anything - a metal box with 20 contacts.

STB set-top box can only be connected to a TV receiver. It is impossible to connect to a computer or laptop!

But in addition to connecting to a TV, the STB receiver needs to be connected to the Internet. And there are also several ways:

  1. Through an internet cable.
  2. Via Wi-Fi adapter.
  3. Via PLC device.

Via internet cable

The easiest and most reliable way to connect the Internet to a TV is to connect the set-top box through a patch cord. This method is recommended by the provider itself.

The receiver has a special connector - an Ethernet port, into which an Internet cable is connected. The second end of the cord must be connected to the LAN port of the router (router, ADSL modem or ONT terminal). As a rule, there are no issues with connecting, but then the router will need to be configured.

A simple physical connection of the Internet cable to the LAN port of the router will not allow you to watch interactive TV. This port must be specified in the software settings. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open the "Settings" program for your router (for D-Link DIR-300 models, this will be Click'n'Connect);
  • Go to the "IPTV" section;
  • Activate the "IGMP Proxy" option;
  • Mode select "Bridge";
  • Just enter the number of the LAN port where you connected the IPTV set-top box.

After that, save all changes, reboot the router and start the TV.

This method is good for everyone, except for one thing: the wires will have to be pulled throughout the apartment right up to the TV itself. If the repair has not yet been completed, then there are no inconveniences, the cables can be successfully hidden under the plinth, for example. However, if the apartment has already been renovated, then appearance may deteriorate. Then you can consider other connection options.

Via WiFi

There are two ways to connect wireless IPTV:

  • Using a WI-FI adapter that can work in the "Client" mode;
  • With Motorola media bridges.

Not all models of WI-FI adapters support work with Rostelecom set-top boxes. Experts advise buying devices with Ralink technology, which is used in their products by D-Link, ASUS or TP-LINK. In order not to be mistaken, it is better to get expert advice from Rostelecom service support regarding specific adapter models.

A Wi-Fi adapter is a wireless device that is installed in the USB port of your TV set-top box and allows you to receive an Internet signal from your router using the IEEE 802.11x wireless data transfer protocol.

Schematically, a WI-FI connection looks like this: a WI-FI router transmits a wave signal to a WI-FI adapter, which is installed in the USB port on the STB receiver. And the set-top box itself transmits the received signal to the TV already via cable (HDMI, RCA or SCART).

The WI-FI adapter will work in the "Client" mode, that is, the signal will not be received from the Internet provider, but through your router. Therefore, be sure to disable the "DHCP server" function in the adapter settings. To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. Connect the WI-FI adapter to your PC.
  2. Open any convenient web browser (Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.).
  3. In the address bar, type the address of your equipment (the default is 192.168.0.1.).
  4. Next, a window will open with a login and password, enter them (you can look in the instructions for the router, if you have not changed them, it will be admin / admin).
  5. In settings local network router, find the "LAN" or "Network" section.
  6. Check the box next to "Disable DHCP server".

To successfully set up interactive television from Rostelecom through a router, you need to check three points:

  • Is the router configured for IPTV (in the settings of the router in the additional options, you need to assign the value "Main" to the item "Setting WLAN");
  • Is this function active (by default, in many devices it is disabled, it is enabled through the item “Enable multicast transmission over a wireless network (WMF)”);
  • Are the ports of the LAN group separated from the WAN ports for IPTV over WiFi (the WPS option must be disabled in the settings of the "Security" item, and the required port must be added in the "Port grouping").

If in the router settings you need to register a virtual network identifier - VLAN ID, then this data can be obtained from the provider in the technical department.

A simpler and more stable connection can be made using Motorola VAP-2400 media bridges. This is a special device that can be purchased from the Rostelecom operator. It operates on a rare frequency (5 GHz) that is no longer used by any equipment in the house, so the signal will always be reliable and stable:

  1. Unplug your TV and receiver.
  2. Connect one VAP-2400 device to the router.
  3. Connect another VAP-2400 device to the receiver connected by wire to the TV.
  4. After all devices are connected, connect the power supply. One device will automatically switch to access point (transmitter) mode. The other instrument will be set to client (receiver) mode.
  5. Wait for them to find each other and establish a connection (the wireless indicator should turn green).
  6. Now you can turn on the TV set and use the full range of digital TV services from Rostelecom.

Via PLC adapter

If you don't want to mess around with complex Wi-Fi connection settings, then there is a great opportunity for you to use the electrical network in the apartment for wired, but hidden communication. This makes it possible to connect digital TV even to an old TV.

The scheme for connecting Rostelecom interactive television through PLC adapters looks like this: one PLC device is plugged into a power outlet and connected with a cable to the router, and the second PLC device is connected to the set-top box and also plugged into the nearest outlet. Both devices find each other without unnecessary settings, and they use electrical wiring to transmit a signal. No visible cords, everything is nicely hidden in the wall.

PLC adapters use Power Line Communications technology and are capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 500 Mbps.

Remote control setup

As mentioned above, Rostelecom equipment includes a universal remote control remote control. So that you do not have another remote control lying around on your coffee table, the control of the TV and set-top box can be set to one device. The setting can be done in two ways.

Autotune:

  1. Pick up the universal remote control and press the two buttons "OK" and "TV" at the same time. Hold them down until the "TV" indicator blinks twice.
  2. On the digital panel of the remote control, dial the combination "991".
  3. Find the channel switch button and slowly scroll through the channels until the TV detects a suitable code and turns itself off.
  4. When the code is selected, save the changes. The indicator on the "TV" button should blink twice again.

Manual search:

  1. On the universal remote control, simultaneously press the two buttons “OK” and “TV” for a few seconds. Wait until the latter blinks 2 times.
  2. On the numeric keypad of the remote, enter the code for your TV. The remote control indicator should blink 2 times.
  3. If the code is entered and accepted by the receiver, you will be able to change the volume on the TV. If nothing changes, the procedure will have to be repeated.

Where can I get the code to set up the universal remote? It can be viewed in the instructions for the TV, on the manufacturer's website or in.

First activation and activation of the service

When you have made all the physical connections of the Rostelecom set-top box to the TV, you just have to turn on the TV and activate the service:

  1. Turn on the set-top box.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Switch to AV mode.
  4. The provider's logo should appear on the TV display.
  5. Next, the hardware check will start, which can take up to 7-10 minutes. If at this stage the check reveals that the firmware of your receiver is outdated, then the software update process will start, which will also take time.
  6. After all the checks, a window with two fields will appear on the TV screen: login and password.
  7. Enter the requested data, according to the information in your contract, and confirm them.

That's the whole receiver setup. You should now have all the channels in your package.

TV setup

Rostelecom television can be watched without a set-top box. You can choose any convenient device with a screen and access to global network. Interactive television of Rostelecom is connected through its multimedia online platform. This service is paid, but not too expensive (from 99 rubles per month). And you will not need to buy or rent any additional equipment.

When you conclude an agreement, the operator will provide you with a special promotional code that will activate full access to the platform. But you can get acquainted with the service without a promotional code, just enter the address itv.rt.ru in the address bar of any browser (you can also use it on SMART TV).

Possible problems

If you have made a connection and set up according to our instructions, but there is still no television, then the reasons may be as follows:

  • The receiver uses the IP address from the DHCP server of the router (did not disable this function on the adapter);
  • The service is not active (if you have just activated the service, it may not be available within 24 hours, since the operator has not yet managed to enter the data under your agreement into the network);
  • No payment (forgot to pay subscription fee for this month)
  • Wrong username and password entered;
  • If a rabbit is running on the screen, then the problem is most likely related to access to the software (errors in setting up the router or port on the part of Rostelecom).

This is far from full list all possible causes. Errors can be both your fault and the provider's. Yes, and marriage in the assembly of equipment or system failures may also be.

To eliminate your mistakes, disconnect all devices from the network and from each other and make a new connection and settings. If the second attempt did not bring results, contact Rostelecom support.

Note.

There are still debates whether the Internet can become more popular than television and replace it, if not completely, then at least partially. The development of IT-technologies allows us to assert that it can. Especially considering the fact that today the service market provides users with New Product- Interactive TV. It includes both the Internet and television at the same time, while providers note the high quality and reliability of the service provided.

Another plus is its ease and simplicity of connection. To do this, you need a prefix and accessories attached to it. Set up the device according to simple instructions from Rostelecom, the user gets the opportunity to enjoy various channels in excellent quality.

Rostelecom is one of the leading providers of telecommunications services in Russia. She was one of the first to offer a digital television service. According to conservative estimates, several million Russians use the company's services.

Rostelecom customers were among the first to have the opportunity to watch their favorite films and TV shows in high quality. Interactive television allows you to record a program, pause the show, scroll the program forward or backward, and even view the files that are in the provider's archive.

All this became possible thanks to the use of an IP set-top box. Today the market offers dozens of different models, both domestic and foreign production. One of the best today is the SML-482 HD set-top box, manufactured by Smartlabs.

Regardless of the reviews you may read about the equipment you are purchasing, we strongly recommend that you check the components before purchasing. In the absence of a wire or adapter, remote control, you will not even be able to install the equipment, not to mention its configuration.

Standard set includes:

  1. STB prefix.
  2. Power supply or alternatively, an adapter for 12V and 1.2A. A regular power cable for the set-top box will not work.
  3. Remote control.
  4. AAA battery for remote control. May not always be present.
  5. Wires:
  • AV or "tulip", 1.5 meters long;
  • Ethernet, 3m long;

Note! In a number of configurations, there is no HDMI cable, which is used to connect to LED and LCD screens. It must be purchased in addition, otherwise the image will be fuzzy and blurry.

  1. Adapter 3xRCA - SCART.
  2. Rostelecom instructions for the operation of the device and its installation.
  3. A package of papers, which includes a warranty card, a manual for the remote control, including a guide with the necessary codes.

Additionally, you will need a router with a LAN port (using the port, the set-top box will connect to the Internet) and a TV receiver. If the distance between the devices is more than 3 meters, you need to purchase an extension cord or, alternatively, a patch cord. It is sold in any computer store or market.

Once you have all the necessary components in your hands, you can start connecting the set-top box and its further configuration.

Connectivity Features

When purchasing a device, the package of basic documentation includes an instruction manual that shows how to properly install and configure the device. The STB set-top box is connected in several ways. We will review all available options so that you can choose the most convenient one.

You can connect the console in three main ways:

  1. With WiFi. This method little popular, but, nevertheless, there is a place to be. The equipment is connected using a Motorola wireless media bridge. The advantage of this method is that the rarely used 5 GHz band is used for connection. The radius of its action is much wider than that of the 2.4 GHz band. If we talk about the minuses, the media bridge is not a cheap pleasure. A simpler solution is a Wi-Fi adapter. However, the purchased adapter can be connected to the set-top box. In addition, the router program must distinguish between the adapter and the LAN port.
  2. The second option is to connect interactive television via the mains. In this case, PLC adapters are used. To connect in this way, you will need additional equipment that is pre-configured to work together. The only plus of this method is the reliability of signal transmission. The disadvantages include the risk of equipment failure during power surges.
  3. The third and main connection method is using a serial connection of an Ethernet cable to the modem and set-top box. After that, a number of simple settings are performed. The disadvantage of this method is the abundance of wires that need to be hidden or laid compactly.

Note! Connecting the set-top box to a TV using an Ethernet cable is considered the best option. In this case, reliable connection and minimal data transmission losses are guaranteed. In addition, with this method, there is a low level of interference and picture quality.

Setting

After checking the availability of the Internet, the set-top box is connected to the TV and then set up. All the necessary wires, as noted earlier, are included with the purchased equipment. It is necessary to connect the devices strictly in the off state, since a difference in potentials is possible, which can lead to a breakdown of one of the devices.

Setting up interactive television provided by Rostelecom is quite simple. For this necessary:

  1. Set the TV receiver to AV mode using the TV remote control. If you are using an HDMI cable to connect to the screen, then select not AV, but HDMI.
  2. If you have chosen the correct source of information, a branded splash screen will appear on the screen. Hence, digital television is loading. This process takes on average less than a minute.
  3. Upon completion of the download, enter the login and password specified in the service agreement. The data is purely digital. They can be entered using the remote control.
  4. If the data is entered correctly and user authentication is passed, a list of TV settings will appear on the screen. Therefore, the connection was successful. You will have to set up channels and perform additional settings, which include setting up the remote control and its subsequent synchronization for full operation with the set-top box.

Remote control setup and synchronization

At the end of the installation and configuration of the equipment, you need to check for synchronization of the remote control. It allows you to perform elementary actions and control the TV - adjust the sound, brightness and contrast, switch channels. Otherwise, you will have to use the TV remote control. In some cases, this is inconvenient, since you have to use two remote controls at once.

Synchronization of the console is performed in two modes:

  1. Manual, when the setting is performed directly by a person;
  2. Automatic, when all codes are entered by the receiver.

In manual mode, the code for synchronization is entered manually. It is used mainly for older TV models. Codes are provided on the Rostelecom website.

The automatic tuning mode on the remote control of the IPTV set-top box starts after successively pressing the TV and OK buttons. Once the codes match, the TV will turn off. For further work, you need to save the settings by clicking on the OK button again.

The most common problems when setting up and operating IPTV

In some cases, even properly installed hardware can work intermittently. This happens with any device. What problems can a Rostelecom client encounter:

  • If the set-top box and TV code match, there will be a conflict between the set-top box receiver. In this case, not the channels available according to the connected service will be displayed on the screen, but ordinary television. The solution to the problem may be to change the prefix code. To do this, the set-top box starts the setup mode. You can call it by holding the OK button for a few seconds. Next, a code is selected in the range from 3020 to 3024.
  • Another possible problem is outdated firmware. In this case, a splash screen with a rabbit appears on the screen.
  • A blue screen appears if the video input is incorrectly selected.
  • If you forget to pay the monthly fee on time, most of the channels will be disabled. Only five to ten channels will be available to you, instead of the usual hundred or more.

A few words in conclusion

Summing up, it can be noted that installing a set-top box and other equipment to receive the Interactive TV service from Rostelecom is a fairly simple matter. Even schoolchildren can install and configure. Difficulties can arise only if the manufacturer violated the package for any reason, but this problem can be avoided by checking the presence of all wires, batteries, power supplies, and a package of necessary papers when buying.

When setting up the television, use the instruction manual that comes with the set-top box. If you have any questions during setup, you can always contact the company's technical support service. Rostelecom specialists will answer all your questions and help with the installation.

If you could not cope with the task and do not know how to properly set up the equipment, invite the company's specialists, after agreeing the time in advance. They will solve your problem in minutes.

Television has always been a popular form of information and leisure. Technologies are constantly developing, and the requirements of users for the quality and manufacturability of the service are only increasing. One of the most popular fashion trends is interactive TV. To use it, you will need to connect a special set-top box to the TV and set it up to use the service. With its help, you can watch many channels on a completely new technical level. The service is provided by different providers. One of the largest is Rostelecom and its regional branches. Let us consider in more detail the possibilities and features of the service, as well as the procedure for setting up the TV.

Setting up the Rostelecom set-top box is no different from the settings of other providers

Service features

Rostelecom offers subscribers the following interactive TV features:

  • Full viewing control: record, pause, rewind, TV archive.
  • Large collection of films of various genres.
  • High quality pictures, as well as viewing in 3D format.
  • The ability to watch interactive TV on five devices, including smartphones, tablets and PCs.
  • "Parental control" function to control access to individual channels.

The functionality is really rich. Watching TV through the Rostelecom set-top box will be a very pleasant and exciting experience.

Set-top box

Usually, the whole procedure is performed by special installers. But you may need to do it yourself. Check the integrity of the packaging and the presence of all necessary components:

  • the console itself;
  • power supply;
  • cable for connecting to the router;
  • remote control;
  • a VGA cable, commonly referred to as a "tulip" and an HDMI cable (not included with all set-top boxes) for connecting to a TV;
  • batteries for the remote control.

Connection options

There are several ways to connect a Rostelecom set-top box to a TV:

  • Through an Ethernet cable. A reliable and fast way to connect with minimal financial investment in additional equipment. The cheapest way, not subject to any external influences. The only negative is that the cable must be pulled from the router to the TV across the room. Solutions are to hide the wire or move the router closer to the set-top box.
  • Through WiFi. Here you have to spend money on the purchase of additional equipment. You can connect wirelessly using Motorola media bridges or an optional Wi-Fi adapter. The first option will cost much more, but it is more reliable, since it operates at a frequency of 5 GHz, which practically eliminates the influence of third-party equipment on the signal. But the cost is very high. The second option is complicated by the fact that not every Wi-Fi adapter will work with the set-top box, plus you will have to suffer with the settings. Experts do not advise connecting the set-top box via a wireless network.
  • Via PLC adapters via power supply. You need to buy a couple of devices, connect them to the mains and set them up to work together.

Considering all the features of the equipment, we recommend connecting the Rostelecom TV set-top box to the router using an Ethernet network cable. If this is not possible due to, for example, the limited length of the wire or the remote location of the router, use the PLC adapter.

Connecting a set-top box to a TV

  1. Take the set-top box, connect the power supply to it, but do not plug it into the outlet.
  2. Enter the router settings, find the IPTV section, start IGMP Proxy, select the "Bridge" mode and determine the LAN port number. Save your settings and reboot your router.
  3. Connect the Internet cable with one end to the router, and the other end to the set-top box. And you need to insert it exactly into the LAN port number that you defined in the settings.
  4. Connect the video cable to the TV. If it has an HDMI port, we highly recommend using an HDMI cable. It provides much best quality Images. If the cable is not supplied, purchase it separately or connect the "tulips" according to the color indication.

  1. Turn on the set-top box, use the TV remote control to select the correct video source - HDMI or VGA. Usually the AV or TV button is responsible for this.
  2. Upon successful connection, you will see the loading screen. Next, the system will ask you to enter the login and password specified in the Rostelecom Interactive TV service agreement. Enter them using the remote control from the set-top box. After a couple of seconds, a list of available channels and videos will appear.
  3. In some cases, the first time you connect to the Internet, the firmware of the set-top box will be updated.

Remote control setup

In order not to constantly confuse the control panel of the set-top box with the TV, you need to set it up to work with the TV. To do this, you need to perform the remote programming procedure. You will then be able to control some of the TV's functions with the set-top box remote.

Automatic setting

In most cases, you can set up the remote control automatically in a couple of minutes:

  1. On the remote control, simultaneously press and hold the OK and TV buttons for several seconds until the latter blinks 2 times.
  2. Enter 991 on the remote.
  3. Press the forward channel button. The remote controls the TV control codes. Press several times until the TV turns off.
  4. Click OK to save the code. The indicator on the TV button should flash twice.

Manual setting

If for some reason it was not possible to automatically set up the remote control, you can try using the TV manufacturer's codes. They are usually listed in the user manual. If they are not there, use the following document: https://pult-omsk.ru/upload/files/rostelecom-pult-coding.pdf. It lists the codes of almost all possible TV manufacturers.

  1. Switch the remote control to programming mode by pressing the OK and TV buttons.
  2. Enter your manufacturer's code. The LED should blink twice. If it lights up for a long time, repeat the procedure from the beginning.
  3. Try adjusting the volume on your TV. If you succeeded, then you succeeded. If the volume is not adjustable, try doing the procedure from the beginning.

Set-top box and TV control conflict

Sometimes it may happen that the codes of the set-top box Rostelecom and the TV match, causing control conflicts. For example, you switch interactive TV channels, but the usual ones change. In this case, you need to change the prefix code.

  1. Put the equipment into program mode by holding the power button and OK for a few seconds.
  2. Enter a code in the range 3020-3024. Try to control the TV again. If the conflict recurs, go through the codes until it is resolved.

Viewing on multiple devices

Rostelecom interactive television can be watched on 5 devices at the same time, the main thing is that the speed of the Internet channel is enough. How to connect a second TV or watch on a computer, smartphone or tablet?

  1. Register on the website www.zabava.ru.
  2. Go to Account Settings - Affiliated Services - Add.
  3. Specify your region, service - Interactive TV, enter the login and password from the contract and complete the connection of the service.

Now you can use a second TV or other device to watch Rostelecom TV.

Conclusion

Do not be afraid of possible problems in the operation of the service. Usually it works just fine, providing new level telecommunication services. It is not necessary to wait for help from support when you can solve everything yourself. If you have valuable additions to the information, share it in the comments.

Interactive television from Rostelecom can only be connected using a special TV set-top box. The company is fighting with all its might for the TV market, therefore it sells to customers modern equipment and convenient service.

Set-top box features

Digital television is supplied based on the technical solutions of SmartLabs. It is the leading manufacturer of interactive TV equipment in our country. Consoles have a good reputation. They are bought in many countries of the world under different brands.

Today, there are about a dozen models of Rostelecom set-top boxes. The company reserves the right to decide which equipment to use in different regions of the country. Usually clients don't have to choose. But this is not scary. Wherever you live, ITV will work consistently. The only condition for this is good bandwidth and a stable Internet connection.

Rostelecom's modern iptv set-top boxes are high-performance devices with which customers get the opportunity to use all the latest developments in the field of interactive TV.

As a rule, the company supplies equipment from the STB Mini series. Four models are relevant: SML-5010, SML-5050, SML-5041, SML-5010CT.

Most often, the younger model 5010 is supplied to the market, the capabilities of which are more than enough for all the services of a digital TV provider.

There are other SmartLabs devices on the market under the Rostelecom brand. They were produced earlier and are still actively used in many homes of Russians. In some regions, these slightly outdated, but still functional set-top boxes are being supplied to customers. Some of them are: SML-482 HD, SML-282 HD Base, SML-292 HD Premium.

Set-top box from Rostelecom

The device is never delivered just like that. The kit includes:

  • remote control (remote control);
  • power adapter;
  • adapter;
  • connection wires: HDMI, network cable and composite cable;
  • documentation and instructions.

Standard scheme for connecting TV through a set-top box

  1. A cable is run into the apartment, through which the router accesses the Internet.
  2. The router distributes access to the network via Wi-Fi for mobile devices.
  3. An Ethernet cable is connected to the computer.
  4. The same cable goes to the TV set-top box from Rostelecom.
  5. It, in turn, is connected to the TV with an HDMI, RCA or S-Video cable.

More clearly, the diagram is shown in the figure below.

You can connect the console in other ways:

  • WiFi connection. This method is rarely used. You will have to purchase a media bridge from Motorola. It is not cheap, and it is not so easy to find it today. The advantage of this approach can be considered work on the rare 5GHz band. The wireless connection is working further than usual. You can get by with an additional Wi-Fi adapter. But not all consoles will work with it. Yes, and the router must be able to separate the adapter from the LAN ports.
  • You can also use the power connection method using PLC adapters. But for this you will need to purchase additional equipment and configure all devices to work together. The data is transferred securely. But power surges can harm the system.

Will it be possible to watch IPTV on a TV without a set-top box?

IN Lately Rostelecom is developing the Wink service, which allows you to watch digital television from computers, mobile devices and on TVs with Smart TV, Android TV or Apple TV. To access, you need to install the Wink application and enter authorization data for an account with a paid subscription.

However, when concluding a contract, it will not be possible to brush aside the need to purchase equipment. After all, the service is connected only on condition that the client buys or leases the device.

Brief setup instructions

After you have wired all the equipment according to the diagram in this article, turn on the TV. A window for entering activation data will appear on the screen. You can find out your login and password in the contract, which is signed for connecting the interactive TV service.

As soon as access is confirmed, text prompts for setting up the system will begin to appear on the screen. Follow these guidelines and you will be able to customize the services to suit your needs.

Possible problems and their solution

Even a new set-top box from Rostelecom can sometimes fail. Most problems are non-critical and easily fixed. In some cases, you will need to call technical support.

But in most cases, our guide will help you.

How to reboot

To do this, press the POWER button on the remote control. When pressed, the button must be held for 10 seconds. Don't forget to point the remote at the console itself. Some out of habit direct it to the TV, because of which the signal becomes unstable.

Shows cartoon when turned on

When you first connect the device to a TV, sometimes a table is displayed on the screen, and then a cartoon. You shouldn't be afraid of this. This is a signal that the device is connected to the wrong port. Plug the cable into the LAN port that is configured for TV equipment.

"No IP address" error

This error indicates that there is no signal. The router may have been configured incorrectly. Sometimes the signal disappears due to the fault of the provider. This can be clarified by calling the support number.

If the device used to work normally, everything is in order with the settings. Try to plug all the plugs to make sure the connection is good. If the Internet is working, and the signal from the provider is working properly, the cable is damaged. Sometimes it rubs against furniture legs. You need to check the wires for integrity or replace them with new ones.

"Server not found" error

Usually this malfunction occurs due to a breakdown of network equipment. As a rule, it is impossible to eliminate it on your own. You'll have to call tech support.

Login and password do not match

During the initial setup, this error appears if you carelessly entered the activation data. Check them again in your contract. Usually they consist only of numbers. They do not contain special characters or letters.

If the problem arose as a result of changing equipment, you need to call the provider. The fact is that each device is tied to specific authorization data. And apparently, the binding process is simply not completed yet. You need to find out how long it will take for the username and password to come up.

Error "Wired interface not available"

This problem occurs when the Internet is not working well. Make sure you can access it from your computer or phone. If the network is really unstable, try rebooting the router. Sometimes rebooting the set-top box itself or poking wires helps.

The prefix Rostelecom does not respond to the remote control

This issue occurs because a control conflict has occurred. Sometimes the TV control code is the same as the equipment control code. In this case, you need to set the remote control to the set-top box using another suitable code. The process is described in detail in step by step guide at TelecomDom.

Popular questions

How to reset settings

To reset the settings on the remote control, you need to hold both buttons (OK + POWER) simultaneously for two seconds. After that, you need to enter the numbers 977, which will reset the settings to factory settings.

If you plan to replace the equipment or transfer it to another person, then you also need to reset it to factory settings. Enter the menu item "Service Management", select "Other" and navigate to the right. Here, select the "Deactivate" function.

Do not forget to pre-register on the Wink service. Log in there with your login and password from the Rostelecom set-top box. This will allow you to keep access to all content and use it on other equipment.

Is it necessary to be connected to the Internet from Rostelecom

No, TV from Rostelecom will work if your Internet has a good speed. In this case, the provider does not matter.

How many channels are available for set-top box users?

Rostelecom is constantly working to increase the number of channels available for viewing. Your limit is limited only by the paid package. Most users have access to 100 - 200 channels.

There are exclusive packages that allow you to view content in very high quality or on special conditions. Up-to-date information It's always best to check the official website.

How fast should the internet be?

The quality of video and sound of media content directly depends on the speed of the Internet. Theoretically, you can watch TV in low quality even with a low Internet speed. But for comfortable browsing, the network must work with throughput at least 0.9 megabits per second.

How many TVs does one set-top box serve?

The device can serve up to two TV sets. To connect the second screen, you will have to use a PCA cable, because the HDMI port is already occupied. Content on their screens will be displayed synchronously.

For separate viewing of different channels on different devices, you need to connect paid service"Multiroom".

What can you do with a set-top box besides watching TV

The device allows you to access social networks and Youtube. You can even check the balance and manage some services through the program menu. If you have an account in the Wink service, then access to content and TV channels will appear for a computer and mobile devices.
